New Sirus Satellite Radio options.

Since I am not married to Sirius (or XM for that matter) is the XM solution cheaper, easier or more fully featured?

TSS is good for the SCC1 though, and they are very quick..almost newegg quick.

on a side note I took the glove box out tonite, and removed the cabin air filter for the first time..MAN WAS IT GRUNGY! I had 2 dead bugs and leaves on the fibers..and alot of black soot. Took a vacuum to the filter for now, the car only has 8500 miles on it..I will be replacing the filter @15k instead of the 30 k toyota wants, screw that

 

how do i get the large white harness out of the way? I have the bolt unscrewed, but can not get the harness out of the way at all in order to get to the plugs. I notice that it has clips to the white housing, should i disconnect the many wires and pull the housing out that way?

 

Once the screw is out from the top of the wiring block you'll need to pull on the bottom clip until it's free. It's a bit stubborn. Pull firmly. Then you can move it just enough out of the way to get behind the radio.

I just finished the install a couple hours ago. The harness is a little tough to plug into the back of the radio. Especially, if you don't have small hands. I'm a little marked up and sore from all the contorting. Oh, be sure to set the dip switch with Scroll turned on. Uh, I forgot that. But, at least that's not on the back of the radio.

Also, I installed the sat antenna just behind the radio antenna. That took the most time and I nearly damaged the wire. Thankfully it is working, and it will look really great once I get the shark fin cover!

 

ok thanks for the input MO, ill give it another shot tommrow. I was able to get the large white harness just enough out of the way, didn;t want to tug to hard, all those connections are super tight as it is..fear i may break some loose.

btw i have the 6 Disc changer..and ther eis no empty input to plug the Y-harness into. I assume it would be the second plug over from the first reachable plug? I accidentally unplugged the very first 22 pin A/c connector.

anyway once i get the harness connected, i should be able to just plug the 6 disc into the other part of the pigtail, correct?

 

Package 3 should mean you have the JBL system that includes the 6-disc changer, so the socket is just next to the connector you can see and had unplugged. Look back to page 9 of this thread for 9G-man's post with pics. The 5th pic shows the connectors (he mentions the image is flipped, so just imagine it the opposite side).

If you have an add on changer, then I would imagine it would plug into the other part of the pigtail. I suppose the extra connector could be used for the DICE iPod controller as well. Could anyone clarify that?

It's awfully nice to have the Sirius in-dash again. I had factor Sirius in my old Murano and really missed that. Since I never did a proper install of it, I hated all the wires on the Sportster, and it was rarely used.

Oh, I'm going to mention, I placed the units between the glove boxes. But, I noticed the one closest to the radio gets scraped just a bit when the lower door is opened. I really don't see it being a problem, but I'm going to get some better foam wedged in today to see if that will push it up a hair more. End the end I believe it would be fine as is.

 

I'm new to the board but I've been lurking here since buying my 08 Prius in October of last year. For my wife's birthday I installed Sirius in the car (which she drives most of the time), and she loves it. I installed the antenna inside the rear spoiler as shown in the pictures provided by 9G-Man. I also hid the tuner and interface in between the two glove boxes as he did. 9G-Man, thanks for those pics! They were really helpful as I was preparing for this install. It took me about three hours, and for those of you considering this, let me pass on some tips...

If you hide the antenna in the spoiler, be careful putting the trim panels back on the hatch door. The clips that hold them in place are quite fragile (particuarly the ones on the sides). When you take these off, you're certain to leave some clips in the frame. TAKE THEM OUT and put them back in the trim panel before putting the trim panel back in place. If you try to put the trim panel back on with the clips still in the frame, you'll push them inside the hatch door. I lost one of the clips inside my hatch door and now you can hear it rattling around when you open and close the hatch.

After you take the screw out of the wiring harness and unfasten it from the bottom clip, you can maneuver the wiring harness toward the vent panel opening at an angle to get it out of the way. I found it best to reach up through the vent panel opening rather than directly from the side of the glove box area when connecting the interface to the radio. Be sure to push the locking tab down after you plug it in. I failed to do this the first time and ended up loosening the connection when I replaced the vent panel.

After installing the tuner and interface, I noticed that I couldn't close the lower glove box because they were in the way. I removed some of the foam padding and wedged them in a bit more and the glove box was able to close. I plan on checking on the tuner and interface periodically over the next few weeks just to make sure they aren't overheating or slipping back down behind the glove box.

All in all, this is a really easy, clean, and hidden installation that just makes sense for anybody wanting to add Sirius to their Prius. I had contacted my local dealer about having Sirius installed and was told that it wasn't possible with the #2 package (which is what I have), and even if I had the JBL package they said they charge $720 for the job! That's when I hit these forums looking for a solution, and I'm glad I did.

Is it just my toy-sc1 scc1 install the volume is low or is every1 like that???? Also does any1 know of a hidden menu 2 increase the volume??? BTW love my Sirius factory look radio glad I waited 4 the TOY-SC1

I thought the same thing. Then noticed the bass and treble were at 0. The JBL systems keeps the settings independent for each input button. Anyhow, I turned the settings up and and it helped. At least now it is similar to the MP3 discs I keep in the car. Though, the volume might still be a bit lower than, say, having an ipod connected.

 

Yeah, the $720 quote to install was a surprise. I think that included a one-year Sirius subscription, but still that's crazy. I know there are probably people out there who have paid it, too.

And regarding the volume, Sirius is definitely at a lower volume than my radio or CD's. I rarely crank the volume higher than 20 when listening to radio, but I had Sirius up above 30 today. CD's vary, especially ones I've burned from MP3's. Wouldn't it be nice to find a way to equalize the volume?

 

success, i did not even have to plug the units into the back of the headunit. In my dopey state i failed to notice that from the third radio input, the plug has a pigtail already bundled, i turned the bundle of taped wire around and found a empty input from the Y-tail. Said screw it let's try it and see what happens, sure enough works perferct..and was easy to reach.

duh!!! anyway thanks for the tips guys.

KDOG i noticed this also on the preview channel, what do you think could cause this? the low volume? Im not to concerned because next project is getting new speakers and 4 chan amp to power them, which i'll just have installed someplace.

 

$720!!! I thought the quote I got of $450 was ridiculous. The TOY-SC1 you can get on buy.com for $80, or $70 with Google Check Out, or $30 if you sign up with a Revolution CC all with free ship. I think the SC-C1 is $48 on tss. Looks like this could be a $80 install with all these deals, plus sub. Not bad at all!

 

I'm thinking that the pigtail is only found on systems with the six-disc changer (JBL or not), but you were very fortunate to find that! My knuckles are still healing from maneuvering the plug into the back of the radio!

I have no idea why the Sirius volume is low. For some reason the volume output from the Sirius tuner is much lower than the FM radio tuner. With an amp installed that would be no problem.

There are so many intro posts in the n00b forum that I thought I'd add my intro/first post here since this is the thread I've been following.

I just picked up my magnetic gray 2008 package #5 on Friday and am not quite sure how I've gotten by without one.

I just wanted to mention that my fiance recently had a sirius radio integrated into a Panasonic head unit in her 2001 Toyota Celica and has the exact same volume issues. SAT is low, everything else is equal. I think it might have to do with how head units deal with a line-level aux input (non-amplified). I'm searching for some sort of small amp that could be used to bring the SAT volume up to an equal level, but perhaps this product doesn't exist for cars... seems like a gap in the market, imho, if the doohicky doesn't exist.

Anyway, glad to have joined the group, and hope to contribute however I can in the near future.

 

that's a good thought about some type of singal boost in between the tuner and headunit connections, but I fear after doing a google search no item exisit.

It's not so low that i want to return the product..but is weaker. Pperahps a full prius audio upgrade is in order quickly!
