I own a used 05 prius with navigation system. everytime when i start the car and press 'dest' button on the right of the display, the system will jump to couple of other screen. It was then back to normal after a minute or two. I bring it in to the dealer and the dealer said it's normal. does it sound normal to you? it's kind of annoying since when i get into the car i would like to type in the destination right away and use the gps...... the master tech at toyota said the system is looking for my bt phone when it first power up and he check other prius and it did the samething...... is it true or not??

    thanks

Hi pico, welcome to PriusChat! :welcome: What other screens? When I press Dest I get the legal screen that I must agree to. When I agree I get the map of my current location. I have to press Dest again to enter a destination.

You've got to get through the I Agree screen to do anything. Doesn't matter if you press Dest or Map first, the next screen is I Agree.

I 1st get the I agree screen. then it will jump into map screen, now if I press dest button, it will 1st goes to a screen, but then it jumps to volume control, manue and other screen. this won't happen after the car is on for few minutes. I think its a bug, but the thec keep telling me its normal

I have a 2005 like yours, but I'm a bit of a ways from Valencia. Nope, that is NOT normal. I'm pretty sure you aren't bumping buttons on the steering wheel, but that's the only thing I can think of that could be switching screens line that.

When I have the navigation system on, there are tire symbols which I have determined are business that have to do with automotive. Is there any way to get rid of these symbols? It would be so rare that I would require automotive services...even having restaurant symbols would be more helpful! Any advice would be appreciated!

Sounds like there's a Lockpick installed on your car that puts the NAV in overide condition so you can enter in destinations while the car is in motion. Look under the driver's seat on from the front and see if you see a printed circuit board with some wires nestled between the black NAV box and the carpet. If so, it's normal.

I agree with Cyee - sounds like the system has been modified to override the Nav lockout while in motion. (Did you purchase the car second-hand, by chance?) If so, you should consider yourself lucky! The easy way to know for sure, is to try pressing the Dest button while in motion. "Normally", you will only be able to select the Emergency category, everything else will be greyed out. If the override is in effect, you will be able to select anything, as if you were stopped.

To answer 808carguy, it sounds like you have some POI's displayed on your map. Try giving the command "Hide all icons", or else turn then off using the Map View menu. If the icons do not disappear with this command, then you likely have them programmed as Memory points, which will always appear. By the way, if you want to see restaurant icons, simply give the voice command "Restaurants" (or "I'm Hungry"). Or for any other POI category.
