Sorry, I should have said privately owned Prius in Adelaide are mostly owned by those people who have the wisdom of years of learning.
My dad is 81 and he said he may replace his Ford 4x4 with a Prius after I left him with mine for a weekend. Dad has always liked new tech stuff, I remember when he bought home a pocket calculator, wow!!
It really seems I am one of the youngest Prius drivers in Adelaide.

The emu picture is a photo I took at Minlaton and I just like it. I think a big emu eye looking out of the screen shows I'm watching.
Here is a koala I saw near my home a while ago. It was 2 streets away and there were houses on the other side of the road. Sorry about the colour, I had to brighten it up, it was dark.

I sometimes see koalas on my way to and from work even in suburban Adelaide. I could have used a goanna or western brown snake (deadly) or red back spider (deadly) or colourful parrots, I have taken photos of them all. Or I could have gone all cute with a roo or koala but that would be a bit cliche wouldn't it? :)

I'm a mermaid, that's why I work on the road. (ask a truck driver. too rude for the internet)
Official title is Transport Safety Compliance Officer (Road).
I drive around the state talking to truck drivers. A big job, South Australia is bigger than Texas. Normally I keep to an area within 200km by road of Adelaide but I have been west to Ceduna (775km), north to Innamincka (1170km), and southeast to Mt Gambier area (434km) for work.

Lol, I suspect that the reason for your "sometimes i can't tell if they are gray or some fusion of gray/green" is that you are seeing the predecessor to Magnetic Gray called 'Tideland Pearl', which actually is "some fusion of gray/green".

Thanks for sharing patsparks, you certainly get around a bit on your daily travels. You mean there's actually another place in the world bigger than Texas? Try telling that to a Texan..

Thanks for the koala pic too, didn't know they get in the suburbs and always thought they were in the wild. Although they look cute, I have heard they can be quite vicious when cheesed off, a bit like my wife. What likely happened to the one in the pic?

How many Prius do you reckon are in SA state? If in an area that large your best is 8 in a day, they must be pretty rare there too, cos they seem that way here in East of England.

It is hard to see the whole state at once.
The koala is wild, there is a big park at the top of my street, although this wasn't on my street it was just outside the park. As koala mostly only move at night and pretty well stay in the trees out of sight they do OK. I just left the little guy to get on with it. I wouldn't touch a wild koala, I have a lot to live for.

Adelaide has a population of only 1.4 million so 8 Prius which sell for 2/3 of an average annual wage here isn't bad in a day. I'm sure there are lots more out there. In the country Prius are very rare, it is seen more as a city car. I'll be driving mine to Alice Springs in Central Australia next month, should be fun.

Texas is only 268,820 square miles, South Australia is a middle size state of Australia at only 402,903 square miles, even New South Wales is bigger at 312,528 then there is Western Australia! Texas is a little bigger than Victoria, our smallest mainland state.

I have holidayed in the UK 3 times now, I hired a car each time while there and enjoyed the fantastic road system there. Roundabouts!!! lots of em! Stayed in Lancashire near friends, some of the time with friends and drove as far as Gretna so I could say I have been to Scotland and to visit a friend in Pwllheli, Wales on a day trip. The people I was with were amazed I would drive so far, they rarely left their town except to go abroad or shopping in Manchester. England was bigger than I expected, about the size of Victoria.

The Prius is really one of the few cars the everyone drives. Young people drive them, old people drive them, rich people drive them, poor people drive them, businessmen, every other old lady at my church, movie stars, musicians, soccer moms, doctors, lawyers, psychiatrists, criminals, politicians all drive them. There are really very few cars like that with the exception of GM SUVs which are junk anyway.

    interesting post!

i have two corvettes, both in storage now and when i drove them, the corvette owners had some type of symbol to say hi to each other.

i had a caddy too, but forget it, nothing happened for acknowledgement.

now the prius, i say but never get a return hi......should we make it an inside thing amongst us prius owners????:grouphug:

We have had our Barcelona Red Prius for two weeks now. I am definitely seeing a ton on the road now. Never really noticed them before. The week or so before we sealed the deal on ours I did count two in my parking garage at work.

I am seeing all sorts of folks driving them here. Young kids, young adult, middled aged and of course the old ones too (This is south florida after all).

I think there should definitely be a greeting amongst owners. I have a friend with a mini and they always honk and flash their lights at each other.

Today, an early model Prius being driven by the EPA!
Later on in the day, a white Prius with Cali reg. and those huge ugly HOV stickers.

I notice a lot of them these days in Orlando. We do have 8 or 10 Toyota dealers afterall!

I see on average maybe 1 or 2 on a daily basis on the way to work. I saw one driving slow and most are just burning the roads up like the SUV crowd!

Well, I guess, I am lucky. I bought one over two years ago and there is still not another one where I work. The factory where I work has about 1000 employees. 500 of them drive quad cab pick up trucks and the other 499 drive the big-as-bus SUVs.

Or, as I like to phrase it: "If we cut Alaska into two states, Texas would be the third largest..."

Hilarious. I'm reading this thread, turned around to pour myself a cup of coffee, glance out my window which faces a street and a silver Prius is going by, so that's my most current spotting.

On a more serious note, I see 2-4 of them on my 10 minute commute each way, they are very prevalent in the Boise area. And I don't chalk it up to having just bought one, I saw them a lot when I really didn't like them...

I NEVER see them on my way into work...50 miles each way. Maybe because it's DARK!?
I see 5 Prii (the same ones, same time) everyday on my way home. I wave...nothing. I stopped waving.
Now, personally I like owning a car that not very many own here in farm country. I've been a salmon swimming up the stream of society for as long as I can remember and I LIKE IT THAT WAY! When everyone owns a Prius, I will have to find a new ride.

I rarely ever see Prius .. like maybe once every couple weeks. And I like that.. because with my old car (Mazda 3) they were EVERYWHERE!! (including 2 within a block of where I live, in the exact same color as the one I had)

I live in the SF Bay area, so you see Prii and other hybrids all the time. Once when driving west on 80 through Berkeley, I noticed a new Prius that hadn't gotten license plates yet coming up on my left. I decided that just for once I'd acknowledge their good purchase decision and looked over to my left with a thumbs up just as they passed. The passenger in the front seat gave me a thumbs up simultaneously. Too funny!

So, in Aberdeen, at Home Depot, (about 6:15 pm today) there was, in the parking lot, handicap parking, a Salsa Red Prius!

It had narrow white pinstriping that framed the side windows (actually looked kinda cool), and across the doors, was a swoopy graphic thing. It also had some sort of after market fog light things (they looked a bit odd)... Oh, and it had a hood deflector. It had SKS, as well. :)

We gawked at it for awhile, but the owner didn't come out.

Yesterday, we pulled into a rest area near Elma, and DH talked for a long time to the driver of a Gen 1 Prius! Nice gentleman, very enthused about his car... I told him about PC. His car was white.

We've definitely been sensitized since we got ours. Typically we see 10, 5 each
way on the daily commute of ~13 miles in NE/Downtown Ballamer. The record
is 12 in a day. Just the other day we were surprised to pick 4 Gen I Prius out
of the busy Saturday traffic. Sightings don't count unless both of us see it.

    Pididdle!

    Punch-buggy!

We were out driving in our Blizzard Pearl 2010 Prius when I spotted an identical Blizzard Pearl Prius ahead of us. A woman was driving and I beeped my horn at her. She mistakenly thought I wanted her out of the way and she swerved into the right lane. On the next street, we pulled up along side her and beeped again, but she seemed to take no notice. My wife said, "She doesn't get it."

As the next light turned green, I heard her honking behind me. I slowed down and as she passed, her window rolled down and a hand came flying out, waving frantically to us. We both laughed.

"Now she got it," my wife said.

There are a $hi7-ton of Prius here in Austin. You can't throw a rock in a parking lot without hitting one.
