Has anyone REPLACED the touch screen with a 7" pioneer/kenwood (etc) touch system? pics?

Im picking up an '04 Prius here in a week or so and it (sadly) doesnt have NAV/Bluetooth etc etc

I talked to someone at Car Toys and they said they could take the touch screen out, and replace it with one of their kenwood/pioneer 7" touch screen systems that HAS NAV/Bluetooth etc

Has anyone done this with their prius? (and im not talking about the fold out 7" from the dash)

Also is there any way to pipe the on-board computer BACK into one of the AUX ports for the 7" touch screen replacement?

    Anyone have pics?

    Thanks

I don't think CarToys knows what they are talking about, which isn't surprising. Replacing the MFD is not an option. I seriously doubt that an aftermarket touchscreen can handle processing the data the MFD sends and receives.

the intention isn't to remove the CPU or whatever it is called but have the stereos 7" touch screen in the location of the cars CPU screen: that way I can have NAV/blue tooth/iPod/backup cam-and the possibilty to switch to say AUX input on the screen back to the cars CPU display

Still a no go. MFD video signal is digital. Then you still have to worry about the touchscreen. I'm sure it can be done with enough money, but you may be better off trading in your Prius for a model that has the Nav, BT, etc.... Otherwise just install another screen in the map slot.

hell yeah - that unit sounds awesome! Suppose you could use the lockpick to adapt it to the Prius screen?

Lockpick should handle the graphical output to the Prius screen, but you won't have touchscreen capability. You'd have to grab the touchscreen coordinates from the CAN-bus, like the Mac Prius, and then somehow, send that info to the GPS unit. A GPS unit that can output external video w/ lockpick, and be controlled with a remote would probably be the easiest to setup, if you only want to use the MFD as a display.

I'd buy a TomTom One XL GPS, a ClicOn mount for it and a Sudio blue tooth and clip it to the sun visor.
Well what do you know, I already did!

In all honesty, the option that makes the most sence is to buy a portable Garmin Nuvi widescreen w/ bluetooth. Then you can monitor more than one screen at a time, and use the nav while your're moving.

I have a Garmin Nuvi currently that I love... but that still leaves me with running a power cord to it and the bluetooth speaker to try and have a conversation through a portable unit isnt the best....

after some research, Alpine has JUST released this new multimedia unit that allows their GPS to fit behind the screen and run through the larger touch screen... Alpine W505

Their GPS has bluetooth also, that runs through the main system .. better sound... better mic... hell yeah

NOW, if I can just find out if it will fit!!! I have another post asking if the Prius space by removing the CD player and pocket (below) would equal a double DIN size? The "installer" guide at Best Buy show a 6.1 touch Kenwood touch screen fitting in the Prius but I have YET to see anyone install anything but the flip up 7" touch screens....

    anyone?
