I posted this in the Washington sub group but thought some of our neighbors would be interested as well. As a preface I posted a teaser on that group last fall and will summarize. For the past several years Lacy Parks and several other community groups have sponsored a Alternative Fuel Fair in the spring (this year May 7). It includes booths, demonstrations, food music and good time. There is also a electric car race in the streets (blocked off of course sort of the Grand prix of Lacy). The cars are built mainly by schools high schools colleges and they race. Several heats good fun. I proposed we have a Washington PriusChat group meeting to show off our cars and answer questions. The person organizing it was excited to have us. So far the hybrids shown have been provided by the local dealers. So with that here is the post...

"I posted last fall about an annual event here in Lacy the Alternative Fuel Fair. It is a go again this year. May 7th in Lacy. It includes a home built electric car race with entries by high schools, and area colleges. Electric cars, Hybrids, Bio Diesel and all manor of eco friendly folks getting together, eating, music and the usual hop knobbing with our fellow wizards of the eco persuasion. I proposed a meeting and line up of our cars we can answer questions, and spread the gospel! What say you? The people sponsoring this are interested in our being there! "

It would be a kick to get folks from Oregon or even further if you would like. Lacy, Olympia and Tumwater are not a bad place to be. To bad the Brewery is closed, no tank fresh Oly at the source, there are some local microbrew pubs though. We could go out to the Brewery site and try to catch an artesian! 8) I would bet Frank from BC will come if he is off and maybe others from Canada!
 I will take names and keep any one interested posted. It seems we have a number of regulars who are from the PNW.

Henry I'll be there for sure unless someone in the immediate family dies. This should be interesting. And it's a good way to get out of town. Not cheap but worth it. Like my last trip, good fun meeting Prius people.

Just send me your email and I will keep a list. The "kids" (I can say that because I am older) make great cars. Very light and well designed with the smallest member of the team driving. As I recall a wheel came off one of the cars and the pit crew came to life like a Inde pit crew. It is Great fun. I learned how to brew my own Bio Diesel last year. I will try to keep folks posted. Frank and his mini scanner will be fantastic! What would you think would happen if I sent a letter to GM about them bringing their hydrogen concept fuel cell car? Wonder who one would send it to? A whole row of Prii of various years would be an attraction.

Small world. I'm the Lacey council member and former mayor who first suggested the city support the alternative fuel fair. It's been a fun event and we've had all sorts of vehicles. Father Time's electric drag bikes, Centralia College's biodiesel dragster and, of course, the Electrathon that brings competitors from Southern Oregon to the Canadian border. Every year's a bit different.

A Prius group would be a welcome addition.

Let me know if you need information.

I should be able to do the whole trip down and back on one tank and it'll be summer BC gas and I'll probably get over 48 US mpg. If I'd have filled it here before I left last time I' might have been able to do Vancouver to Portland and back, as it was I took the car back and forth to work for a week before I left. Renton to Lacey and back should only be about a quart and a half;)

I am in contact with the person organizing things for Lacy Parks. I am at home today and do not have her name handy but she has been very supportive and interested in having us. I think we could answer questions and clear up misconceptions better than the car dealers. I also know some people with Honda hybrids and thought I would invite them if they wished. I have enjoyed the fair in the past.

Here is the thread in the Washington Forum.

Please everyone that can come. I would love to have someone from Oregon to represent that group. We will rock the crowd. Are you going to let the Biodiesel people take center stage! I think not!! Prius owners 110 mpg or bust. Be there. Party on dude. Hmm have I forgotten anything? Here is the most recent post in the Washington group. If you have the time to get away we want you. No one else can afford to drive the miles to Lacey except us!

Ok we are getting down to it. I have 5 cars in the "pit" Myself, Dave, Frank, Daniel, Paul Allen. Who else? Where else in Washington are you going to see a Hawaiian Reef Trigger Fish! You need to get there at or near 9:00 am (yes in the morning) if you want to be in the "pit". The gates close at 10:00 to the pit for the uncompulsive. I have one small surprise to share, drinks, and I will get a tarp/cover/awning of some kind. Should we have a banner or poster or something, or is that too non geek! I think we will have hordes given the gas prices so hone your skills. Everyone else is invited to come and go and help answer questions and we will get all of them. We need as many as possible. I am going to cruse through there with iStumbler to see if there are WiFi networks we could tap into. I would love to go live on Prius Chat. Blow by blow and pictures. BTW bring your digital and non digital cameras. I personally have never heard "where do you plug it in", but I live in hope! Let us make this a fun time for all. Dave email Starbug, she may need a bit of time off. She may not be able to get away but I would like her to know that she is welcome and we care. IFixem will be there but he has been absconded by the local Toyota Dealer! He promises to be around.
