Good day to all you smart people! We have had our Prius for a month now. We had rented one back in December and liked it a lot. Our vehicles at the time were a Silverado truck and Buick LeSabre. I drove the Buick and hubby drove the truck. We crunched the numbers and found that we would actually be paying half the car payment with the money we jointly saved on selling the truck and now hubby drives the Buick and I drive the Prius.

Im not sure, but maybe we would do better if hubby drove the Prius though because of the MPG on short trips. Thats all I do because everything I do is within 10 minutes of the house.

The only thing I dont like and am having a really hard time with is backing up. There is just so much in the rearview mirror. I guess Im just used to the Buick and it will take time to get used to. I dont like the backup camera at all and try to avoid looking at it altogether except to make sure a kid or dog isnt behind me.

I think Im going to order one of those bumper covers I see in the accessories area. Anybody have one???

    More later.....have a Prius day!!!!

Welcome, and may I say you have great taste in colors! Sounds like a smart purchase on your part.

Regarding the rear windows, I found the split a bit distracting at first, but it was something I got used to with time. I recently read a post where someone compared the windows to bi-focals, and that you should concentrate more on the lower split when you are backing up - interesting concept, anyway! I don't always check the camera view when backing, because as Toyota says, the screen can get cloudy in cold weather, which is about all I've driven my car in so far. Maybe now that the weather has turned I'll check it more since the view is much better!

Others will no doubt chime in, but my daily commute is about 7 miles on city streets (about 10-15 minutes), and in winter I have found it takes about half my commute for the car to warm up. I've tried using a block heater with limited success. Most of the traffic lights on my route are timed to impede my progress, and most street speeds are 30 mph tops, so the best I was able to do this winter was about 39 MPG. What I'm saying is, your route can determine what your mileage becomes, and maybe you each need to drive your respective routes for a tank and see who comes out better. Other factors also can affect mileage, and I'm still learning some of those myself, so I'll shut up now!

Again, welcome, and have fun with your new car!
