Has anyone taken their Prius on a 1000 mile or longer trip?

rsforkner and miscrms...thanks for your quick replies. They make sense to me, so...I'll not worry about running down the batteries out on the highway.

To everyone who posted a reply about their trips - Thank you. I ordered my Prius a over week ago and if it comes in by the 1st week of May we plan to take it on a trip to Mt. Rushmore. There hasn't been much posted about taking a Prius on a long trip and I wanted to see what the owner's said. I was impressed by the responses.

We can't wait until we get our Prius. We are replacing a 2005 PT Cruiser Limited Edition turbo which is a great car but it only get 19.5 mpg in town and 24 mpg on the highway. This will be our first Toyota.

    Thanks again,

Hey, say hello to our friends and family in Rapid City! Don't forget all the great caves (tourist traps, but fun) and the Crazy Horse carving/memorial near Hill City. Hike Harney Peak if you have the 3 hours to spend. Nothing like a 7,000 foot peak to REALLY see the Black Hills.

We did not one, not two, but three trips from S. Dakota to Oregon with my '04 and Heather's '05. Plus another 3 trips out east before we moved to PA. Best tank on all trips was 56 MPG, averaged 47 ish doing highway speed limits during all kinds of weather (cold, wind, REALLY hot, hail, a bit of snow/ice...not all on the same trip)

The Prius rocks, plain and simple.

Finman - We are planning to go to one of the caverns, visit Crazy Horse carving, ride a steam powered excursion train, and visit the small towns around Rapid City. From there to Devil's Tower, Cheyenne, Denver, Colorado Springs, ride the Royal Gorge Railroad, visit Dodge City, and then back home. Should be a great trip. I just hope the Prius comes in so we can take it. I'll wave at your relatives as we drive by.
