Just wondering how many Prius owners in the Tidewater (Hampton Roads) VA area are on this forum. There are plenty of Hybrids running around down here.

There are a few of us in the Richmond area: me, Skwyre7, Green Hokie, LivelyChick (ex-Prius driver at the moment after hers got wrecked ... she'll be back), Essayons, Evrabel, among others. The only PC member that comes to mind from the Peninsula or Tidewater area is VaBeachPrius -- the Mad Hypermiler of Virginia!

Which locality are you in, BTW?

    Virginia Beach.

I figured at least some of the numerous Priuses I see here are members of Prius Chat. Maybe I should make invite cards for the site and place them on their cars.

There is a very large population of hybrid drivers here and all the way down to the Outer Banks where I live. I got mine in 2005 after Katrina and the first $3/gal fuel spike. I work at Priority and I believe that I sold the first Prius in Hampton Roads back in July 2000 ( arrived in Jan 2001 ).

Hey, I should have been looking for you. I was at a family reunion in Yorktown Saturday, at the Duke of York Hotel.

Just joined the pruischat. New oner here in Virginia Beach.

Sad to say (?), I do not think Pruis ownership is what it used to be. On the one hand, they say, people with Pruis used to way to each other. I believed (?) back then, it was an environmentalist statement--screw the oil company plus low/zero emissions. These days, I see a few Prius around. A few owners look like hippies.
Ha ha. But many I see many a Pruis zooming around. I imagine they are getting 30-40 mpg. But they would get way less in some other car.

You would not belive the idiots at my workplace. I sold my RSX Type S-a Japanese sport compact. I was driving really slow & getting close to 30 mpg, despite what the EPA said. Anyway, the young people there seemed to like that car & give me cred. They said, they can't beleive I traded on to a Prius. The Pruis is ugly (yeah! I admitted that). They also said, you have no children & make a good salary. So why should you care about the environment or the price of gas? I just shut my mouth & smiled.

I must say, I swing between rice cars & high mpg cars. But probably not much more. I used to own a 1983
Honda Civic 1300FE. I swear it got 60 mpg; no a/c. Someone said, it is because it did not have to meet the safety standards. Well, I guess we are all better for that ??

    Thanks, guys & gals.

What color is yours? If I see you, I'll wave.

I have an '87 Civic, but it is not quite a commuter car and it definately does NOT get 60mpg.

I just got my 2008 Mag grey prius March 04 2008. I live in Va Beach.
I am getting 43 mpg, so I guess I'm one of those zooming around. I typically drive PA Rd in Kempsville to Newtown Rd to Military Highway to Norview Ave. to work in Norview. I haven't gotten over 45 mpg. I thought that getting up to speed quickly, 35 to 45 mph then trying to glide was the way to go. Now I read that VaBeachPrius doesn't go over 22 mph using P&G. I guess I'll have to reassess how I drive. I'm sure that he knows that driving that slow in this town can be very difficult with all of the rampant tailgating.
