More and more Americans are buying hybrid.
Sales of new hybrid vehicles rose 38 percent in 2007 to a record 350,289.

But high gas prices may be only one of the reasons behind the surge.
Buyers now have more options, with several other hybrids now on the market. And some buyers want to make a statement with the car they drive.

The Toyota Prius remains the bestselling hybrid, taking more than 50 percent of the hybrid market and continuing to increase in sales.

I guess it shows that the Prius is the best all round hybrid on the market. I saw that CNN and Headline News were both covering the story, and the reporter on Headlines News made the point at the end of story that the Prius is still the king of hybrid sales.

Hi Folks, I've been a prius owner for two and a half years. I live in the Montreal area. For the first year I kept all my gas and milage data. I compared it with the Mazda 626 I was driving before I bought this car. The family drives the Prius roughly 28,000 km per year (17,300 miles). Since we got the prius I figure we've saved $7.000 + in lower gas purchases. What I really am interested in is getting a plug-in kit installed, because Quebec is very rich in hydro-electic power. The cost of it is much less that elsewhere on the continent, and what's more electric energy adds no CO2 to the atmosphere. Anyone hear of an outfit in my area which installs plug-ins for the Prius?

Funny. I think since this story came out gas prices have risen 38%. If hybrid sales are up 38% and rising this year wouldn't the demand of gas go down? If the demand goes down wouldn't the supply go up? Anyway....just blowing steam.
