I've been wanting to get a hybrid for years, and finally my gas guzzler died so I could take the plunge! I purchased my Package #2 Metallic Grey Prius exactly 8 days ago. I absolutely love it!

Of course, I get a TON of questions about my car, but being as I've only been an owner for 8 days, I myself still have a ton of questions! Hopefully some people can help me with the following??

    1) Can I take my car into the carwash with my stock antenna? The thing seems absurdly long...:help:

    2) What's the quickest, most efficient way to explain how the hybrid engine works? People always ask expecting a neatly packaged answer, but I don't have one?!

    3) Why is it that sometimes even after I unlock the doors, I still can't get my latch to open. I tug and tug, and it still seems locked? :der: I swear, that thing is my nemisis (and ugh! no interior release?!)

TIA for the help...I look forward to being part of this Prius family!

Congratulations on your Prius! I hope this is the start of a beautiful friendship with your new car. I wish I could help you with your questions, but alas, I do not have a Pruis yet.

Ok, first, its Magnetic Grey, not Metallic Grey. LOL And yeah it is metallic, thats just not its name. :D

Car wash is fine, hand wash is much better.

Hybrid uses electric and gas efficiently, what the car needs it gets, with the outcome being high gas mileage.

Feel under the ledge where you open the hatch, there is a soft rubber area, you must make contact with that area to open the hatch, if you are off or not totally in contact with the soft rubber part, it can seem hard to open.

    Here's my 2 cents:

    1) I only take my Prius to a brushless car wash. No troubles with the antenna to date.

    2) The Prius is powered bay a small very fuel efficient gasoline engine and an electric motor. The electric motor is powered by a battery pack that is charged by the gas motor and by regenerative braking (ie when you're slowing down, the tires rotate the electric motor, and the electric motor acts as a generator charging the batteries). The gas motor only runs when needed. As a result, the Prius uses very little gasoline.

    3) You talking about opening the rear hatch? I push my fingers up above the rear license plate & pull like I'm lifting thr rear hatch. That usually disengages the latch.

    Good luck with your Prius!

    1. You could take it through any drive through car wash and not have to worry about the antennae.
    2. No easy way to explain. I strongly recomend you to browse through the user guide in John's Stuff - Toyota Prius and more
    3. Never had the problem. I have however enabled all door unlocks upon "Smart" unlocking the driver door. Maybe that will help?

PS : Nice another Prius in the bay Area! Where did you get your car from and how much did you have to pay?

    :welcome: Welcome to PriusChat, andreax716!
The stock antenna screws off easily, leaving just the black base, which is very safe through a car wash. The explanation is really simple, or incredibly complex if you're thorough; the computer decides how to most efficiently give you the go or slow you want, it's drive by wire and the Hybrid Synergy Drive gives you the lowest emissions for any given request for power. You have to have the fob within a few feet of the back of the car, then hold the previously mentioned rubber strip; you don't have to yank, just hold and the hatch will unlatch and you can lift it then.
