I've called dozens of Toyota dealers in So Cal in the past few days--All tell me the same story: Had lots of Prius' until recently but Toyota advised them that they won't be restocking So Cal for awhile, and therefore stocks are low, and cars are going for MSRP and more. Current going price for the package 2 is $23909. More than I had anticipated. Someone called and offered a Base model for $22475.
I am picky and only want the pine mica, which is really scarce.
Any opinions on paying the full price for my car?

Take a vacation, go to San Francisco, buy one there???:D

I know you can't compare areas, and mine was given to me....but I know they paid 23,200 for the pkg. 2 in Oregon in Mid-December.

Why San Francisco? I can go there for the right deal.

I was quoted $21,000 for a Package 2 a month ago down here in San Diego by 2 different dealers and the one dealer has a ton of Prius' on the lot...Mossy Toyota in PB, where gas is $4.23 at one station

Cause it's a great city and I have lots of friends there...I know that doesn't help you much...but what I was trying to say in an indirect way and was slightly addressed by the other poster, is that if you go a ways north or south of yourself, you may find yourself in another territory with better, or worse, prices.

But, who WOULDN'T want to vacation in The City.

I bought my 2008 Prius Pkg 2 Pine Mica for $22,000 in Western Mass with no fight from the dealer. That is close enough to Invoice and dealer holdback for me. Gas was $4.19/gal then. Good Luck:)

Hey, I just bought my Prius 4 days ago in So-Cal.

What the dealers are telling you is pretty much the truth. They are running out of stock. I had a friend's dad that works at Crown Toyota, he said they were on a 120-day supply, now they're only on a 10-day supply. I think that means they had enough to last 120 days for a while, now Toyota is only shipping them enough to last 10-days.

Anyways, I went through a broker (my friend for almost 10 years), if you want his info, e-mail me at [email protected].

My broker talked to Longo Toyota in El Monte for me, got me a pkg#2 for 22600 + tax and license, which is pretty much the best deal u can find in SoCal. I was also quoted 24900 for the pkg#5.

Now, if you want to go to Nor-Cal, its really much cheaper. I called up Palo Alto Toyota in San Jose area, and they were going to give me a pkg2 Spectra Blue (my 1 choice color) for 24000 OTD, which is around 22200 + tax and license. It wasn't worth my time and drive so I didn't go.

That should give you an estimate, and yeah feel free to contact me I'll give you my broker's info.

Oh BTW... the sales person that dealt with me at Longo Toyota was Heecher Yong. Really nice guy, turned out that mine came with a Sirius that he didn't know, so he just threw it in for free heh.

It's true that Toyota is not taking any more orders as the Prius is at the end of its model year. Two years ago MSRP was usual and MSRP+ to those who walked onto the lot. About all you can do is widen your search. Since Toyota hasn't increased the price they are eating the foreign exchange loss which is a few thousand dollars per car.

You are right...I was born and raised in The City but have lived in LA for over two decades....People think I'm nuts but if you lived the first 20 years of life in The City it too gets old....But this is way off topic...:)

Hey, thanks, but I checked the Longo people and they don't have the Pine Mica and I am still being picky.....I found a fleet manager in Corona who gave me a price of 24015 for the package 2 including an upgrade to leather seats. I may take it. It's the best deal so far down here, and will save me a much longer drive.....

Thanks for the advice and help. Enjoy your new car!!

Heh, I live in Corona. For 24015, is that out the door? or is that plus tax and license?
Just wondering, for upgrading to leather seats, what else do they include? just swapping cloth to leather?

I'm in the market for one as well. Which dealer did you get this price quoted from? I got higher prices so far.
    Your help is much appreciated.

    Thanks

I just got my 2008 Prius Pkg #2 3 weeks ago for $22,000 +tax here in L.A. You just have to keep "Dealing" with them. You should be able to get it for that if you do enough homework before hand. GL! I love this car!

I think Notrh Hollywood Toyota advertised 50 in stock in last Sunday's paper. I've also seen them on the storage lot for Pasadena Toyota along the 210 freeway. I saw several at Hamer a few weeks ago, too. I paid list plus $500 "dealer added value, pinstripes, door and wheel moldings (profit)., back in 06 and was happy with that. Paying MSRP + a little won't kill you. It depends how bad you wand/need the car. Total cost is the factor. If you can't afford it, don't do it.

    Orlando FL prices

I moved from San Fran just 2 years ago to FL and i know that this could just about be about as far away from San Fran as it could be, but...

I walked onto the Toyota lot in Orlando yesterday after haggeling for a few days with several dealers in Central Florida and the best deal I could do was full sticker plus tax and tag with NO dealler markup on an 08 with Package #6.

    I hope this helps
