New Owner; FOB or No FOB; Can a Key Power Up the Car?

    Do you always need the smart key to power up the car? In other words, if I remove the mechanical key from the FOB, leave the FOB in the house, unlock the car with the mechanical key, is there a "key slot" to insert the mechanical key to start up the car? I've read that if the FOB is "dead", you have to stick it in the special dashboard slot and press "Power" to get going so that leads me to believe a FOB is a necessary requirement regardless if it is working or not.

    That's correct, you need the FOB to power up, whether it has the mechanical key or not. The mechanical key's only function is to unlock the driver's door; normally when the FOB battery is dead.

    There is no place for the KEY to start the car, the car recognizes the FOB, not the KEY, the battery in the FOB allows the car to recognize the FOB from a distance, if the battery ever goes dead, the FOB INSERT in the dash allows the FOB to still be recognized by the car passively and with a dead battery.
