I have been a restaurant manager for the last 23 years(Wendy's and Ponderosa Steak house are the two most people in the US would know) and they ALL brew their coffee at 195-205 degrees Fahrenheit and are supposed to serve it at 180 to 190 degrees. Often times it is not that hot because they hold it longer than they should. If you serve coffee at 140 degrees people will complain that it is cold. The maker of Bunn coffee makers recommend serving it at 175-185. Unfortunately for McDonalds their lawyers did not put on a defense so the only evidence in the case is what the plaintiffs lawyers said which is just not true.

Of course it's supposed to brewed almost near boiling. Brewing and serving are two different things. I seriously doubt anyone would want to put a liquid in their mouth that can cause serious burns in two seconds.

I work for a McDonald's, so I'll put in my $0.02 on this issue:

Okay, quick story. One night I have a group of regulars come in to my McDonald's after church one Sunday. I pour them all coffee out of the same pot, and later come back to check up on them. Two said the coffee was too cold, another said it was too hot, and the rest said it was okay. Then one fellow told me not to worry, everyone has their own opinion on how hot the coffee should be.

Now, for Stev0, here is an excerpt from another news article:
My number two complaint after fries being cold is coffee being cold. Now, we fry the potatoes in 340 degree oil and they come out around 100-200 degrees. But after they cool down to a safe handling temperature many customers scream too cold. Same with cookies, pies, and coffee: some customers think fresh = scalding hot. If its not too hot to touch its too cold to eat. Back to coffee: We brew at about 200 degrees, and serve a little cooler. Now, some customers are okay with this, but others still think if its not burning hot, then its not fresh and they want us to brew more. What McDonald's has tried to do is find a safe median in temperature. If they bring the temperature down to a point where no one will find it too hot, no one will want to buy it.

Personally, I only drink the iced coffee...

I let my coffee go cold before I drink it anyway. I also drink it black so it takes me all morning to drink a cup of coffee.

Otherwise I'm with McShadowManager, although for me it's Farmers Union Iced Coffee or it's nothing.
