Re: Toyota Service Contracts / Extended Warranty - Discounte

It took several weeks of phone calls and emails but I too have become a satisfied customer of Troys!!!

Hawaii is one of those regions that Toyota Finance does not sell the extended warranty in. To compound my problem I purchased my car on another island from where I live. Troy helped me each step of the way and I must say the dealership here on my island is very kind and generous!!! I have also heard that their service department is tops even if the reason I didn't purchase from them was because of the sales staff.

When my contract finally came they spelled my last name wrong. Troy quickly responded to my inquiry and will help me if I have any more problems!!! He already made the sale but he's still here helping with the little problems! MUCH MAHALO TO TROY and MAHALO to Prius Chat for making the extended warranty available to all of us!!

Hi I pick up my new Prius this week. What do folks recommend on the prepaid maintenance contract? Toyota offers it at $595 for 5 years (unlimited miles). Is there a better offer out there?
    Thanks
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,

Something doesn't sound right about that. I assume when you say "Toyota" you are referring to your dealer, since Toyota Financial doesn't offer an unlimited mile option on their pre-paid maintenance plans. If what you say is true and your dealer will pay for all your maintenance for 5 years, even if you put 1,000,000 miles on your car for $595.00 it sounds a little too good to be true and I would check the fine print.

Here is the link to the Toyota Financial website, on the factory backed Auto Care pre-paid maintence plan options, they list the various plans available as well as the "suggested" retail prices. Take a look and let me know through the [email protected] link, if you would like a quote on any of them. The most popular, is the 4 year / 55,000 mile Premium plan which covers your services every 5,000 miles. Suggested retail price is $995.00 and I can offer it for $670.00

Just wanted to give advance notice, that I am going to be taking a little vacation time around Xmas since any emails to me during that time won't be read or responded to until I get back. I will be away from the 22nd and back on the 30th. I will try and respond to all email inquiries during that time on the 30th when I return.

    Have a Great Holiday everyone!

Re: Toyota Service Contracts / Extended Warranty - Discounte

    Help! Advice!
Okay, I blew it...I was so excited yesterday when I got my prius I signed up at the dealer for the extended warranty for much more than you have offered....
I wasn't worried cause I figured (as I had read the 30 day cancellation part) and figured if I got home and found out about a better deal (e.g. your web page) I could get the refund and a new one but now the dealer is saying that if I cancel, its a toyota policy that I can't get a new one???
Help! Is this true? is there a way around it?

He's blowing smoke up your backside. Cancel the warranty through them and contact Troy via [email protected] for a much better price.

I made the same mistake as hmbprius when I bought my Prius on 11/24/04 with an overpriced 7 y/75 k warranty. I cancelled the policy on 11/30 (fax) and received the refund check from Toyota on 1/6/05.

I just sent Troy and e-mail to purchase a 7y/100k warranty and prepaid maintenance contract through him. The service department at my local Toyoata dealership will accept the maintenance coupons. Thanks for this excellent Prius forum!

Re: Toyota Service Contracts / Extended Warranty - Discounte

I realize there are now 11 going on 12 pages here, but I just wanted to say we just got our Prius last week and tonight I went in to the finance department with a printout of the offer on this thread and asked if they could match it. They said they had someone else in the last week with the exact same printout and had agreed to match it for them and that they would for us as well.

They said they have shown this offer to their contacts at Toyota and are waiting for their response. They don't want to advertise this price but they said for the time being they will honor it for anyones who references this site.

So I advise other buyers to try this angle with their own dealers, and if they can't match it, go with this. It's a great price. Thanks guys for all your work with this site and this offer!

We would prefer that instead of taking this great offer made to the PriusChat community and asking someone else to match it, please just purchase the warranty through PriusChat. These purchases support the site and keep it running, as well as rewarding Troy for offering such a great price without having to ask to have it matched by someone else.

Your attitude greatly upsets myself and many others on this site.

I agree whole heartedly with supporting Prius chat: I had found a potentially lower price on the web, but it didn't look as "kosher" as that advertised here with Troy/Prius chat (e.g. Troy/Greenfield Toyota has web page, phone etc) ANd I can vouch not only for the price through Troy/Prius chat, but his responsiveness! What a great guy to talk to too! So I am getting it here through Prius chat/Troy and anytime I am looking for anything for my prius I am coming here first!

Agreed. Troy and Danny have put a lot of work into this, and it's they deserve our business for their efforts.

And purchasing a Toyota extended warranty/pre-paid maintenance plan through PriusChat benefits us:
    • We get these plans at the cheapest rates possible.
    • Some of the money is used to support PriusChat.com -- the best information resource I know of for the Prius.

      • Ask yourselves: how many times a month have you gone to PriusChat to find an answer, or get good advice, about your new car (or prospective new car)?

It's the best deal I know. (And I've put my money where my mouth is: just bought both plans this morning from Troy.)

Re: Toyota Service Contracts / Extended Warranty - Discounte

    Thank you.

I do understand that people want to be loyal to their local/selling dealer, but its time I brought up a few other points.

With the number of people that are trying to price match our prices, its starting to cause a little flak...My factory rep told me he is regularly getting phone calls now from dealers and other reps around the country complaining about what we are doing. This can't be a good thing. I could see it becoming a problem if enough dealers complain. Plus, I get some rather ugly phone calls myself from other dealers that are not too happy, which I would like to keep to a minimum.

Believe it or not, I actually had someone call me from another dealers finance office, as they were picking up their Prius, with a copy of this thread in hand asking me questions about the validity of the offer!!!

So, like others have said....We would appreciate it if you would purchase the plans from us here, its an easy way to contribute to the forum while at the same time helping yourself to a great price on the Toyota Extra Care plans.

After all, think about how much you would have paid without this offer being brought to your attention in the first place. Most dealers make up for the low profits on the cars themselves by making huge profits on the "aftersell", including the warranties. I get emails on a regular basis where people have paid hundreds over Toyota's suggested RETAIL prices. It turns out many even have a doctored up cost sheet, showing their costs as being higher than they really are to show the few customers that actually try to negotiate the price on them. Nice.

But, if anyone feels that they simply must give their dealer the chance to price match, at the very least, give us the courtesy of keeping us anonymous so you don't ruin it for everyone. Just tell them you have gotten a better price at another dealer, and leave it at that. Don't give them a copy of this thread or one of my emails with all the info they need to go crying to their factory reps about how much money they lost because of us.

Well I certainly did not intend to create a problem. Exactly as Troy said I was showing my local dealer some loyalty because thus far they have been very helpful and friendly to me. They wanted to negotiate with me for the warranty anyway and so when I went in to do that I mentioned this deal and they said had seen it before and could not beat it but could match it. If it had been a penny more I would have come here straight away.

And Danny I have already made purchases through two of your sponsors (one was through the Priuschat store). So I am supporting your site in other ways and will continue to do so. And hopefully prospective sponsors will see posts like this and realize the audience they have through such a great site.

Sorry for any trouble that I caused Troy.

AS I have said before we should just say "no thanks" when you pick up your new Prius and they offer you an extended warranty, and then email Troy and get the warranty from him " In house= in OUR house LOL" Lets not goof up a good thing!

Working with Troy could not be easier. He sold me a Platinum Warranty a few weeks ago. I wish all business transactions could be like this one!
    Thank you Troy and Danny.

So glad I read this. Last time I talked to my dealer I was #9 on the list, and I should have progressed to #3 or less. I was thinking about doing this "print it up" thing. Thanks.
