Are there any rental companies (or dealers) in the Austin, TX area that have the Prius available for rental? I want to rent one for a few days before I pull the trigger on one.

Apparently Avis rents them but their web site makes it difficult to know if one of the Austin locations carries them.

Alamo/National had them in Denver, so maybe Austin also. I bought from Champion in Austin and kept the demo car for several days before buying.

i would just ask the dealer that you are seriously buying from to demo the car. i am sure they will let you if the numbers work and all it takes is having the car for 24 hours...that is if they even have a car on the lot. maybe they have a service loaner?

No luck so far. E-mailed both Austin dealers this morning and haven't heard back. Neither National or Avis have the Prius in Austin, waiting for reply from Budget.

I bought my Prius from Walter Rozier at Champion Toyota three weeks ago. He was very helpful. Call, ask for him, and if you get his voicemail, I'd wager he would call you back today. He always returned my calls that day.

When I took delivery of mine, he said the current wait was 6 weeks. I know they show having some at the website, but for whatever reason they post ones that are already purchased and waiting for pickup.

I don't know about rentals, or even getting a demo. I decided after a 15 minute test drive. :)

I'm leaving in about 5 minutes to pickup my tags. I'll ask Walter if they have any demos or if he knows of anywhere to rent one.

Edited to add: Talked to Walter at Champion. They have none in stock, so none to demo. He thought Enterprise might rent Prius. Also, if you order one now, it's a 7-9 week wait, as opposed to three weeks when I ordered one.

According to their site, Enterprise doesn't carry the Prius.

Thanks for the update. I'm probably going to stop by Champion on my way home from San Antonio on Saturday and do a test-drive.

Went to both Toyota dealers in Austin on Saturday and neither had any on the lot.

Hertz supposedly added quite a few Prius last year. I don't know if they have any at the airport, but I'd call them.

Fox Rent a Car is supposed to have Prius also, but their website is not even listing an Austin location, though ABIA's website is showing a number.
