My hood is all strached up because my dog hopped on it. the straches are not very deep, but the gloss is gone and hence is fairly visible when looked at at a certain angle. Does anyone know of any products, cheap/expensive, that will restore my white paint to its usual bright and glossy self making the straches nearly invisible? Thanks

I don't know about white, but Zaino sure makes by black Prius look good.

Only available on-line or by mail order. Requires something like +50 F. for application.

gotta agree with Smooth his jet black jelly bean looks really good. I use a product called GT88 for light scratches and it works a good as the stuff they tryed at the body shop to get sum gunk off the quarter panel of the wifes Prius. You can buy it on line as well, just google it.

I have found on all of my other cars that Meguiar's car polishes are great.

They have a product call ScratchX that is designed for fine scratches and swirls.

I had something for my Landcruiser that was a miracle - it was a "kit" with 3 or 3 products - one being the toyoguard - it worked great - I'm not sure if it was the toyo guard stuff or not though.

My new Prius is BLACK Like a jelly bean . I've not washed it yet. should I wax it? Or will the factory finish be enough for awhile?

Wax when it's new. Buff with a supply of old clean all-cotton rags (socks, etc.).

I wash mine (silver, admittedly more forgiving than black) with a Mr. Clean Autodry system using an all-cotton mitt for the paint and a second mitt for the wheels, both of which get laundered between each use. No swirls yet after nine months.

I've had extremely good experience restoring badly damaged clearcoat with Menzerna polishes. I bought their "Get Acquainted" kit which has a small bottle of Intensive Polish and a small bottle of Final Polish:

I applied both with a PorterCable 7424 polisher, which I also bought from Classic Motoring Accessories. Except for a few areas where there were some early signs of clearcoat failure, the Menzerna polishes brought the finish back to where it looked better than new. I followed this up with Klasse All-In-One and Klasse Sealant. My 2005 Prius just has Klasse All-In-One and Klasse Sealant on it, since its paint was in new condition.

Check out these web forums for more information on detailing cars and restoring damaged paint:

If you do a little searching on these forums, you'll find before and after pictures from people who had to solve problems like yours, and be able to see the results of the products and techniques they used. Poorboy's World products (Super Swirl Removers 1-3) are also highly regarded for restoring clearcoat.

Some one scrached my door. :cussing: Rear passanger side. The clown left red paint on the car what is the best way to get it off and fix the defect? I guess I might need touch up paint but I can't tell because of the other paint.

What is the bottole of toyo guard that came with car for? I didn't have a choice in the matter and paid extra for dealer stuff like undercoating and I think toyo guard or some sort of protectant.

The toyo guard bottle said to use it once every two or three months to keep your finish (not the paint) looking good.

Should I still wax it? It is my understanding that something was already done to it.

(same with my white landcruiser) and it looked awesome for years.

For years I had a white paint scrape on the plastic bumper cover of my SUV where I (lightly) rubbed against a post while exiting a parking structure. Several weeks ago I tried polishing the spot using Menzerna Intensive Polish and a Porter Cable 7424 polisher and it removed all of the white paint scrape. You can't even tell there was ever anything there, all you see is a flawless finish.

Give it a try, you might be surprised and find that under the foreign paint, your finish is actually undamaged or at least restorable w/o repainting.
