I'm a NRA life member and get kidded about my Prius at my local gun club. If I put a NRA sticker on my car, it would get keyed in the all inclusive Boston area.

No joke, it has happened to two gun club member cars.

I support the right to bear arms, but I DO NOT support the NRA.

I also get a chuckle at people that buy a "Support Our Troops" magnet that's made in China. ;)

The only thing I'll ever stick on my Prius:

Seems perfectly natural to me that a "conservative" would be into "conservation".

I know the ol' lib/conserv stereotypes don't go there, but it seems to me that conservatives would like nothing better than to stop sending money to foreign countries for oil. And a surprising number of them do.

We're way too politically polarized when the basis of choosing one's position on an issue is determined by simply taking a 180-degree opposite view of the "other" side's position. That's just being lazy, and both sides seem equally guilty.

But lest I turn this into more of a politico-philosophical discussion, I'll end there.

    :)

People are weird. The stereotype of the NRA is "conservative, law-and-order." Then they come out as strident as can be in favor of every citizen's right to buy and use cop-killer bullets. I just don't understand people. Normally, I don't like the police. But I certainly don't think it should be legal to make, sell, buy, or own cop-killer bullets. The NRA, however, defends its members' right to use them.

No stickers, but when I bought my Prius earlier this week and the Finance Mgr. was doing our DMV paperwork I ordered special license plates bearing the Marine Corps insignia. :cheer2:

Whatever... if you're going that route it's actually the smallest of the military branches.

I am a lifetime member and would put the sticker on but I am no longer a bumper sticker guy. In the days of the old straight chrome bumpers they were fine but with curvy painted bumpers I just don't care for them anymore although the little round NRA sticker isn't bad.

And with me and my wife being very far to the right on the political spectrum I explained the likelyhood of everyone who sees her driving the Prius thinking she is a little left on the spectrum, she opted for a specialized plate which definitely let folks know she is not a tree hugger.

Right.. because, you know, God forbid anyone thought you cared about the environment.

I don't understand why people who call themselves 'right wing' feel the need to distance themselves from people who care about the condition of the planet we all inhabit.

Fox News does a hell of a job at brainwashing. I'll give em that much.

Actually we both care very much about the environment. I hate people who litter for instance. But I also think we should be drilling in ANWR and off every coast of the US where there is oil, not weaning ourselves off of fossil fuels.

No I don't need to distance myself from anyone.

As to FNC, they have only been around about a decade. I am nearly 50 years olds so trust me, they had no influence on my political views.

I have a feeling you and I might agree on more than you might think where the environment is concerned.

Perhaps tree hugger was not the right word to use, I should have just said liberal as I have seen way too many Prius' with Obama stickers on them and I did not want to be confused with one of his supporters.

Actually, the problem is not right wing, left wing, the problem is ignorance, conservatives think they are conservatives, which is pure BS, so stupid things like bumper stickers for the NRA or a sticker made in China somehow takes on a higher meaning. Its just like the stupid made in China flag lapel pin stupidity. None of that has to do with conservatism, it a way of creating a divide in the country, one thing a true conservative wouldn't want, a true conservative would want accountability in government, a true conservative would want fiscal conservatism, and a true conservative would want justifiable spending, with true consequences.

The NRA is a dividing force in this country, it creates a divide that doesn't need to exist, and it exists to drain it members of funds for the betterment of the people who created it and the political people who benefit from the funds, the real reason behind it.

Yes, logic would dictate that making our enviromnent a better place for us and future generations would be a universal theme in America. It should be, and could be a tie that bonds us - not seperates us. Sadly, and as we all know, nothing could be further from the truth.

The bottom line is that people just don't think for themselves. They've been told what to think from sources with vested interests in fosil fuels. Those interests have an almost unlimited amount of money for propaganda, and politicians. They are going to win agains the non-thinkers every time.

It's sad, but true. You just can't make people think for themselves. Couple that with the fact that our own government promotes the idea that saving the environment is for extremist nut jobs .... well, is it really that much of a suprise?

NRA Endowment Life member sticker on one side.
USMC Recon Sniper sticker on the other side.

The only time I hug a tree is when someone is shooting at me,
or the wind is trying to blow me out of my tree stand.

I’m happy to do my part to protect the environment but not at the cost of driving people into the poorhouse or just to line the pockets of Al Gore and his Green money making machine.

I lean right and left depending on the issue. I don’t fit in either category and think for myself.

I vote the lesser of the evils presented and as for the stereotypical “liberal” tag.
I heard it best on a radio show once, a guy called in and said he just neutered the cat, now it’s a liberal.

    You're right, bac.

And I think the right wing has done a good job of convincing people that their views are more 'manly' than their opposition.
It's seen as somehow more 'masculine' by these people to not give a $hit about the environment, to be against gay marriage, to cheer on the military (no matter what they do), to support the NRA, etc..

But the thing is, from a psychological standpoint, the root emotion behind a lot of this is just plain fear. So they cover up their fear with all of this mindless machismo, hatred, ignorance, and the like.

    Very sad, imo.

This is where the lies come in and most like what we see here believe them.

The press calls them cop killers. The NRA fought to keep them as legal ammo because once you make one kind illegal its easy to make all of it illegal. Not because they think anyone should be killing cops.

The ammo in question was designed for law enforcement use and personal defense.

Its design was that of penetration with controlled expansion so that it was able to knock the criminal off his feet with lethal impact. In other words knock him down before he could continue his attach on you or someone else.

But the press called them cop killers and some anti gun politician jumped all over than and ran with it. So the only thing that you KNOW about it is “cop killerâ€

Couldn’t be father from the truth…………..now maybe you can see why some of us say we still need the NRA.
