    Hello everyone,

I placed my order for my black Prius last week. I was given an estimate of about 4-6 weeks to take delivery. Just wondering from those of you who had to WL/order your Prius how long they estimated and the ACTUAL time you really waited....

    Thanks in advance !!

    p.s. can you tell I'm impatient??!! :p

When I ordered Priapus in 2004, I placed the order in February and was told that I could have a car in April.

    Of 2005!

Fortunately for me, there were not a lot of orders for Tideland and so when a Tideland showed up with the package I wanted, I took it. That cut my wait down to only seven months.

Well, you're gonna hate me....I waited 14 days.

I don't know if that was a function of the color/package combo I ordered or not, but I more suspect that I just got lucky and got in just before the "rush" started.

Luck for me, dealer had what I wanted, I thought waiting a day for them to clean it was long enough.

Congratulations, don't take this in a bad way but Sucks to be you!

The reason I say that is because I was in the same exact situation as you 2 weeks ago. I went to half a dozen TOYOTA dealerships in CT, RI, MASS and was told 3-6 weeks...I couldn't be that long without a car!!! I know exactly what you feel like and it feels awful - you know what I'm talking about, looking at Prius pictures nonstop, reading posts, and falling asleep waiting to go on your first Prius trip...ok so maybe thats just me.

Well I don't condone this but if you want it NOW. Call every single dealer in a 300 mile radius. Call carsdirect. Go to every single dealership and just try to get as much info of other dealers stock as you can. My lucky strike was convincing a dealer in New Jersey (with no priuses on hand) that I wanted only a green one in touring (I didnt really want a green one), so he went on the computer

Dealer: oh yah there are none like that, I see black and silver but you wouldnt even want those

Me: im sure those are across the country, (fake laugh)

Dealer: yah pretty far, one in manhattan

Me: ok talk to you soon

    5 min later...

Me: Hello 411, Toyota of Manhattan, Hi I want to put a deposit on the silver touring

Dealer #2: oh that just came in....

Me: I know, my AMEX card # is xxxx-xxxxxxxxxx, I'll see you to pick it up tomorrow

and whalla, picked up my 08 Touring Package 3 in Silver Friday :) VERY HAPPY

Best of luck to you, and just in case, dont be afraid to blow the dealer off, most likely he is waiting for his shipment to come in so he can give you one of those or swap with someone else, aka your not wasting his time because someone else will buy the prius so dont feel bad to shop around and if need be just say i want my deposit back.

sorry don't mean to hijak your thread but I have to brag (waiting for my first long trip in 2 weeks to post official new car pics)

After missing out on 3 cars at two dealers (long story), I ordered the next one coming in (08/Touring). I only had to wait 3 days.

Au contraire -- My Prius was waiting for me.

In Jan, drove up to the Totyota dealer to talk Prius:
Test drove; talked options; talked $$; called insurance; talked trade-in.

Asked me which new Prius on the lot I wanted; I said Spectra. (the '07 Red Touring w/ 4,000 mi. was close 2nd -- but was priced higher than a new '08).

No waiting, but then again, 4 months ago, when gas was $2.75 here, was somewhat of a less 'desperate' time !

In September 2004 I put my name down on one list and was told the waiting time would be such that it wouldn't be until February 2006! I did start getting calls in January & February 2005, but not for the right package. I wanted a #5, but in So Cal only packages 1, 3 & 6 were available. On April 10, 2005, I contacted two dealers in Nevada in the hopes of getting a Seaside Pearl with the #5 package. On April 11 I got a call from one saying they could order me a #5.

On the 14th I got a call saying they couldn't; Nevada is pushing the #6 and dropping the #5. The person I talked to said his manager had said I can order a Seaside with the #6 and if I didn't want it, there were 10 people behind me that did. I said no as I could get a #6 in California.

I did an internet search that day and found a Seaside Pearl #6. I called and 15 minutes later it was reserved for me.

So how long did I wait? From September '04 to April '05 it was about 7 months, but the amount of time it took me when I looked for myself was about 30 minutes.

The local Toyota dealer told me 7 to 10 days for a 2008 Barcelona Red Prius with Option Package #3 and I gave them a $500.00 deposit. On day 11 I called them and I was told 60 more days. I told them to tear up my deposit check. I found a Toyota dealer on the Internet that was 150 miles away (also in a different Toyota sales district) and I was told 7 days. I gave them my credit card number for the deposit. In 7 days my new 2008 Barcelona Red Prius with Option Package #3 was ready for pick-up. A very easy purchase. I highly recommend Eddy's Toyota & Scion in Wichita, Kansas.

My waiting experience was kind of interesting - I wanted a seaside pearl package #5 and they didn't have any. So the salesman sat me down to write the deposit check and checked the incomings - there was one incoming just as I wanted, and after he checked he confirmed that it was not reserved for anyone. So I sat there writing the check as he went off to check on the arrival time, which he reckoned would be a week or so. He came back and plopped down the packet with the manuals and announced that it had just arrived that night!! I picked it up the next afternoon, so my wait was - about 10 minutes technically.

Got mine two weeks ago. Decided I wanted one on Sunday got on the net and was a proud owner on Monday so about 24 hours for me. There out there just have to do some research less than 40 miles to get mine that dealer had 5 on Monday ordered a extra key went back to pick it up on Wen and the other 4 were gone. If you want one find it and buy it quick. Good luck.

To all those "true" early adopters who waited months back in the day....THANKS! That faith made it possible for those of us who have recently gotten our cars and/or who are "in line" now.

Last year when I ordered mine there was lots of them in stock, but I wanted Magnetic gray so I had to wait 12 days.

No problemo. Those 8 months were quite trying. Back then (Jan-Sep 2000), gas was less than $1 per gallon and almost no one knew what the heck a hybrid was.

By the way, the craziness of the delivery wait is how my website originated. I felt that pain and wanted to ease it for others. Now, we have thsi FANTASTIC forum where others can contribute too.

Keep posting here, it helps to pass the time... and of course, some of us early owners will need that help ourselves... later on when we join that wait list once again!

Ours was also waiting for us. Went to the dealer to look at any Priuses they had in stock, and they had two silver ones--I wanted a Barcelona Red. Saw a red one in the prep area and asked about it, but it was already sold. Thirty minutes later, that sale had fallen through and the car was ours.

A friend purchased an '06 silver pine mica and waited months for it. A friend in Japan also purchased a silver pine mica in around '06 and waited months.
