6 gas-saving myths

I beg to differ with myth 4 ("Don't pump up your tires".) These days I wouldn't even consider driving with anything less than the max rated sidewall pressure! Most auto shops still deflate tires down to 32 psi for some reason which is waaaaaay soft.

 

#2 is wrong, and #4 is kind sneakily wrong. Much revolves on the definition of under and over inflation. Toyota's suggestions are underinflation, based on both tread wear and fuel economy results from Prius. Inflation to the (radial construction) tire's sidewall max will not cause excess wear of the center tread. I know of no exceptions. Police trainers and other performance driving schools say the sidewall max gives the best traction. Any that say otherwise, please post the links.
