It's not for my navigation or bluetooth, any other thoughts?

Also it looks the there are two microphones near the front dome lights, I know the left one works during handsfree mode, but what of the right one? Should that work also or is that for RHD models?

Just a mono speaker to fill out the front. I am considering disconnecting it to get better R&L separation. I would have done it by now but I was concerned the L+R was subtracted from L and R channels, but found out that is not the case.

As for microphone, I thought both grills had mics behind them, but I suppose I need to rethink that. Only 2 functions requiring a mic is bluetooth handsfree, and voice recognition, both coming from NAV. .... I think.

... looks like it is mono and a little larger than the others. This may indicate some (slight) improvement in bass response. Admittedly, the bass response is not wonderful, but this might help a little.

I have set my Audio Sounds to Bass up a couple of ticks, Middle down a couple of ticks, and Highs up about 3 ticks. This seemed a bit better to my ear.

    My 2¢ worth....

Someone posted on another thread that he got to speak with the designer for the JBL system. I asked him in a followup post why he didn't ask about the center speaker. He did, and was told what I posted here. It's mono to fill in.

If there's enough bass response in the amp output to the speaker, it might be useable for a sub speaker instead, which is what JBL/Toyota should have done in the first place.

Well, if it's used to fill in missing bass, then do you suspect disconnecting it would make then sound system sound better if there's already a sub installed? Maybe it wouldn't be needed anymore?

I installed a sub myself, and my bass is definitely strong enough (I turn the bass down to -2 to lessen the muddled sound the bass sometimes has coming out of the door woofers).

Anyway, let us know how it sounds if you ever get around to disconnecting it!

No, not bass, full range, or as full as you can get with that tiny speaker. Some feel that the driver can't get the right channel well, and the passengers can't get the left channel well, so the center speaker fills in the missing pieces.

What I was thinking is that JBL/Toyota would have made better use of that mono channel by feeding it to a sub. Since they didn't, we could.
