I was trying to deactivate the safety belt beep following instructions found on PC. after completed the procedure, I took my car around the block and the first thing I noticed was that the gas engine wasn't kicking in!
I kept driving around It behaves as what people have described as EV mode, with the only difference that I can't dissable it with a switch. the car is an 08 US model.
has that happened to anyone? next thing will be to bring it back to the original stage.

out of my league. Did turning the car off and restarting it reset it?

Very interesting, did you try redoing the procedure to see if the ICE works again?

no I did not yet try. I have to admit I am a little concerned about not being able to set it back.
if it doesn't work I was thinking of resetting to factory mode by disconnecting the battery.
I will definitely go over the procedure in the morning.

The Prius goes into and out of EV mode as it sees fit. The EV switch is just a request telling the control system that you would like to use EV mode if at all possible. In your case the conditions were appropriate for not using the ICE, so the car didn't use it. It has nothing to do with deactivating the seat belt beep.

I'm assuming that you've tested it enough to tell if this is normal (re: Prius will do fully electric in certain situations) or if it really just won't kick out of fully electric mode. If that is the case, something is for sure wrong.

Please keep the group informed! :)

Try some hard acceleration. That'll kick in the ICE.
