I had looked at Carmax when we were preparing to buy our Prius back in March. Just trying to get an idea on used prices and resale values.

At that time they had somewhere around 12-14 for sale nationwide. Today, there were 2 available nationwide. Obviously there are many factors that go into this, but I found it mildly interesting.

Very interesting, 35 available on eBay today. Some are totaled parts only and a few are pre 2001.

    Very nice resale values too.

I've seen the exact same phenomenon (on G1's). When I started looking a couple months ago, there were dozens available across the country, particularly, ones under $8000. For example, for a while there, I was seeing 50-60 Prius' on Ebay (all generations) at any one time. Now, there's around 30 consistently. In my searches on autotrader.com, carsoup.com, and cars.com, I bet the supply is now 25%.

Oh, and I forgot to mention what's happening to the prices of what's remaining. The same types of "entry level" Prius' I've been looking at are steadily increasing in prices, in some cases doubling in price for those sellers with wishful thinking. I've been watching car prices and lurking on this board for at least a few months, and I've been continuing to watch car prices and availability, because I'm quite frankly thinking of getting another one. But at this rate, the darn prices are going to be going so high I won't be able to afford something that's comparable to what I already bought!

Yes, and looking more closely, I see instances of the same type of 2002 car I bought for $22,xxx (yes, 5 digits starting with a 2), and from a Toyota dealer! Did it even cost that much new??? There are several priced between 15k and 20k now too. And I'm talking G1's.
