My best bet (or wish) is that 'Cheap!' is in the negotiation stage with Hymotion and we will all have all our packs installed in August! :) If they have not responded yet to our request a follow-up email to them would be nice.

Cheap! heard back and they're not doing any discounts/fleets/group buys at this time.

YES In a heartbeat. Heard something today that mentions $10.00 per gallon gas. I think with the upgrade these will be very much in demand and sought after.

Well, I figured the answer would be No. I will just have to wait for technology to come around I suppose for it to be more affordable.

    Yes. In a heartbeat.

I was almost ready to send in a $1000 deposit, but decided to check out Priuschat first.

I haven't been on in Priuschat in ages, but I'm about to retire and can spend more time working on my Prius and spending more time on Priuschat.

I guess that the $10k price listed by Hymotion included installation and the $6500 target is for a kit.

Correct me if I'm wrong on that.

And if there is a group purchase, I'm willing to send money as soon as a group purchase and details can be confirmed.

Hymotion did not go for the group buy idea. The $6500 price is not for a kit, but was a hypothetical price the members came up with for the poll.

I put down my deposit and for the first time, I'm looking forward to October.

    Confirmation #65 and waiting.

    IBSC,

I guess I'll do the same. I'm going to do a little more investigation first. October isn't bad as a delivery date. I wouldn't have time to go for installation until after then anyway.

It looks like you'll have to go to Minneapolis for you installation.
I'd only after to go to Seattle (~270 miles).

They are supposed to have a new installation center in Washington. That's about an 8 hour drive for me, otherwise I'd go to Minneapolis is 11 hours and Boston is 13 hours. I told Erin they could add a dealer in Cincinnati, OH would make me happy. Of course, everyone would have their favorite city that is less than an hour away.

    318 * $9500 = 3.021 Million dollars or $318,000 dollars in deposits. I'm in the wrong business!

    Bummer about the group buy!

I didn't notice anyone factoring in the reduced oil change intervals for the cost projections. When I get mine converted (or buy the 2012 model which ever comes first!), I plan to wire in a clock that records actual run time for the engine, and change oil only after x number of hours like in a piston aircraft engine. In fact, I think I should do that now....

BTW: Did the request for sponsorship from Google get anywhere?

Unfortunately, no. I speculate that they are probably providing VC funding to Hymotion and sponsorship from them would be self-defeating.

Even though most of the pending legislation is basically dead, I think we'd have better luck at this point starting a letter writing campaign to our congresspeople and representatives at the federal and state level to encourage them to support funding for tax credits and/or rebates for this type of modification. Also, the local electric utilities may be another source of funding to explore.

I've been meaning to put together a generic form letter we can print / email showing our support for such credits but lack of time has prevented me from doing so. In the meantime, here are some random articles I've saved on the topic just in case someone else wants to pick up on this project.

Vote here for support of PHEV's:
Campaign for plug-in hybrid technology, including petitions and other grassroots campaigns by Soultek

New tax credits for hybrid vehicles focused on converting standard hybrid cars into plug-in hybrid vehicles. What about extending Toyota's hybrid tax credits?. Soultek.com - All hybrid cars, trucks and SUVs

"Plug-in Hybrid Opportunity Act of 2007":
Support builds for hybrid tax perk

    WashingtonWatch.com - H.R. 2966, The Plug-in Hybrid Opportunity Act of 2007

Plug-in Hybrid Opportunity Act of 2007 - Amends the Internal Revenue Code to allow a tax credit for 35% of the cost of a qualified plug-in battery module (or $4,000, whichever is less) used to convert a hybrid motor vehicle to a plug-in hybrid motor vehicle. Terminates such tax credit after 2010.

    Status of the Legislation:

Latest Major Action: 7/10/2007: Referred to House committee. Status: Referred to the House Committee on Ways and Means.

    H.R. 2966: Plug-in Hybrid Opportunity Act of 2007 (GovTrack.us)
This bill is in the first step in the legislative process. Introduced bills go first to committees that deliberate, investigate, and revise them before they go to general debate. The majority of bills never make it out of committee. Keep in mind that sometimes the text of one bill is incorporated into another bill, and in those cases the original bill, as it would appear here, would seem to be abandoned. never hurts to start a write in campaign to get tax credits... but wait until after the first of the year...u be wasting your time now with this administration

take if from someone who bought a full battery EV in 2007 and got a tax deduction of ZERO along with a tax credit of ZERO....

    No...

I really like the direction the research is going, but I can't justify the cost. Even using the calculator on the Hymotion website, and some rought calculations of my own, it looks like it would take around 8 years to just break even.

I've been looking at various solutions, including solar options, but the cost at this point is prohibitive.
