I feel about the same way. My little Impreza had another 100K in its life (my Camry went 170K before it needed a valve job and I just wasn't willing to put that into it and got the Subaru). But I take comfort that it's a great car and in great condition and though it pollutes, it is far better than the Maverick it's getting off the road.

I'm going to keep an eye on the battery and the reports from classic owners. There's always the extended warranty that can be purchased at the end of the 36K/3yr factory warranty.

  2. I live in Indianaplois, Indiana but my "Home" is in S.C.Currently drive a 1994 (yes, 94) Saturn. The good news? It's paid for and runs well.
Ordered a 2004 Prius a month ago. Hear in Indy, am being told to expect delivery March or April. Such a long wait but I think will be worth it.

We have 2 Prius (both bought from Dianne):
    2004 Tideland BC, obtained 10/25/2003
2002 Blue Moon, everything but NAV, obtained 11/26/2001, now has Coastal Tech hitch for her electric wheelchair carrier.

Car I had before the 2002 Prius, '99 Ford Contour SVT (silver) stock but with 600w stereo, avg'd 17-19mpg on premium. Was quite a change going from a 200hp sports sedan to the slower, but WAY more efficent Prius. Major driving style changes ensued, but that too was a good thing.
My wife had a 2002 Hyundai Elantra GT Hatchback (cobalt blue), avg'd 20-23mpg, which we sold to get the 2004.

My wife now drives the 2002, and I drive the 2004. We're both quite happy with the cars.

    Hi everyone!

This was a good message to see right off.

I live in Michigan (Detroit metropolitan area)
Currently drive a '93 Ford Ranger pickup

Don't own a Prius (yet), am currently in "deciding what car I want to buy when my current ride dies" mode. I'm very attracted to the hybrid vehicles, and find myself gravitating towards the Prius, based on reviews and owner feedbacks. Found this community via a Yahoo Prius group.

I have a couple questions to start:

    1) Anybody else live in the Detroit area and can recommend a dealer? Or, a dealer within 200-300 miles? Frequently cars are more expensive in this area, just because every other person here works for one of the Big 3, so they have tons of money, and buy new cars every year. None of the above apply to me.

    2) Anybody else previously owned/currently own a pickup, and how was the change? Obviously any truck-to-sedan switch has inherent issues, did you find anything specific to the Prius, good or bad?

Looking forward to learning lots from this group, hopefully soon I can become a fob-carrying member!

    Sally :D

Glad to have you here, Toastygirl!

ajacobson is from the Detroit area and has posted interest in meeting at the 2004 NAIS in Detroit. There's a thread on it here:

    http://www.priuschat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=79

I would start a thread in the Dealers & Pricing to see if anyone knows anything about the dealers in the Detroit area.

Welcome, glad you joined! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Now driving 04 Salsa Red (Florida State Garnet) Prius in Mt. Airy Maryland. Loving the 48 mpg I'm getting on my 38 mile each way commute to BWI every day. Previous car was 1991 Honda Accord EX with 180K miles. Now my only concern is with approx 100 miles a day on the Prius, that will take me to the 100K battery warrantee in only 4 years. Here's hoping for cheap battery replacement by then. I LOVE MY PRIUS! Rick

LKFSE, you might want to post a request like that in the Audio & Electronics forum or the Appearance Mods forum. Not everyone is going to read this thread everyday.

Currently driving a '91 toyota Tercel, 220,000 miles as of today. Still gets 37-38 mpg, but she's smoking.
"Ordered" 10/22, Prius with AM package, Silver. Hoping it gets here before my Tercel decides to quit.

Had it an even week today. Already run a test tank dry and can't really complain too much about the guess guage - once you know it, it will be your friend. Until then, keep a gallon onboard!

    Let's hear:
    Where you're from
You're Prius' information (year, options, color, etc)
Car you had before you got your Prius

Collinsville, Illinois (St. Louis, MO region)
    2004 Driftwood Pearl #9
    1997 Mazda B2300 Pick-up

In response to the pick-up owner, the transition was a postive one for me. I'm 6'3" and the pick-up was just too small. I used it primarily for commuting and the occasional landscaping project. I decided that I could pay a delivery charge for those few times I actually hauled something and enjoy the comfort of a sedan during the other 99.99% of the time when I'm commuting.

    Hi!
    I'm from San Mateo, CA
I have a beautiful salsa red pearl 2004 with the nifty smart entry and start.
I gave away my previous car, a 1994 saturn coupe with 160,000 miles on it. the prius feels like a dream to me. i lucked out and only had to wait one week for it. For everyone who is waiting, hang in there, it's worth the wait. if you live anywhere nearby and want to go for a ride to get a 'prius fix' during your wait, write me. i'm having a ball exposing everyone i know to this car and all it offers.

:)  :| APRIL'S TOY: Cars delivered in 2003 get the full $2,000 but it reduces to $1,500 in 2004.

I'm George in Raytown, Missouree. Got my Seaside Pearl (Blue) on October 27th, with Option #9. I had ordered it, sight un-seen couple of months before. Traded my Avalon XLS for the Prius. Didn't need a big car anymore. My wife, Alice, still has her RAV4 and I can't pry her out of it. Re-cycled my sheepskin seat covers for the Prius.(Had to do a little modification) Had my first dead battery due to faulty door sensor for dome light but it's fixed now. Took quite a while to burn the oil out of exhaust system to keep "Check Engine" light off. Have only about 1,400 on odo and mileage seems to be about 50.0. I do reset it after each re-fill. :? :? :guns:

Jacksonville, FL. Looking for an '04 Prius w/pkg 7. Like silver the best but all the colors are cool for me except black. I posted in dealers/pricing too, so if any of y'all have any leads, let me know, please? :) Currently driving a 95 Saturn SL2 with nearly 140K miles.

    Huntington Beach California (O.C.)
    Black 04 loaded Option 9
    Ordered Early Nov 03
    Took Delivery Early December 03
Paid full list price, not more; no additional options.
Put $500 down to get on list.
Was #17 on list. (Went through fleet sales Mgr by the way)

2200 miles already; average about 46mpg.

    Other Cars:
    02 Chevy Avalanche (the 'beast')
    97 Camry
Just sold 97 Chrysler Minivan to get the Prius

The color black is indeed impractical, but after tinting the windows, I think it looks the sportiest..!

I want to see some pics :) I haven't seen a black #9 yet - esp with tint.

    I bet it's purty.
