i wish i was that lucky to get some kind of discount. i think i overpaid for my base magnetic grey. Apparently toyota doesn't make enough of the lower priced standard for $21,500 (before destination charge). So it was base for $23,535 (including destination) I had to settle for a gray one rather than a silver pine mica. Overall, it was $23990 before TT because of some kind of car door edge plastic they put on as well as some non-corrosive paint finish. I know it's not needed at all, but it was the last one on the lot on that rainy day.

Oy vey! So difficult to even get these cars for an acceptable price especially in the LA area. Either way, sort of glad that I got it done since I do need to car to drive. Originally was going to get a civic hybrid, but decided that this was much more practical with the hatchback.

I think i could have done better if I had bought this in TX or somewhere close to LA.

Good luck to the folks trying to get one now!:)

I put down a $2K deposit today for a pkg 2 at MSRP. I was told 4 weeks.

BTW, A dealer in Tampa (Toyota of Tampa) is asking $2K over MSRP and quoted a 12 week wait. I'm not sure what kind of bites they're getting but I can't imagine paying more and waiting longer.

You did good...No doubt your timing helped. One month later and I bet it would have been more. BTW, what are "wheel locks"? (Sorry, I'm ignorant of such things.)

It would be most meaningfull to me to know the amount above or below MSRP that people paid. Even with the 6 package designations, there are various extras, mats, first aid kit, etc that affect msrp. Total price paid means very little to me.

So, it is great to list total price, but the amount above or below MSRP really lets us know how good of a deal you got.

A month ago, I ordered a 2008 package 5 and the cost is $27,500 out the door. It took 2 weeks to get it in. My husband went last week and ordered a package 2 Prius for himself, and there is now a 2-month-long waiting list. The price also increased by $400.

In Northern Virginia we just paid $23,116 plus taxes, freight, tags, and processing for a 2008 package 2. This was the Costco auto buying program price but I don't know if they're offering it now that the cars are in such high demand.

I paid $1000 under MSRP 22 days ago in Ottawa, Canada for a "Canadian Base" aka "5 door liftback". Base Prius here is at least partly a Touring model package #2 with some #3 and #4 features.

    I'm taking delivery tomorrow.

This was an APA pre-negotiated deal. I think same deal is still possible, BUT our MRSP is $29.5k + $1.4k PDI. Canadian dollar about par with US $ now.

Add $4,000 in federal and provincial taxes, then get the same $4,000 back in maximum fuel efficiency tax credits.

I paid $25,8** including any final dealership fees for a 2008 standard model package #3 that I ordered. I have an estimated ~9 week wait. Every other dealership I approached in the city of Houston had virtually the exact same price.

Certainly different pricing/wait from when my parents bought the family Prius years ago.

Off topic but I'm shocked so many Prius owners seemed to have chosen to have leather interior!

I'm in Durham NC and am soon to be on a (90 day or so) waitlist for option 2 for about the same price (25,500). Prices that I was quoted ranged from that up to $27,500 (because it was from a Southeast Toyota dealer and included Toyotaguard, $699 doc fee, and other "value added" items. McGeorge Toyota in Richmond quoted $25.5k too, but thanks to a someone I saw on Craigslist, I heard about Truliant Credit Union's auto buying program. They don't have commissioned salespeople, and they're a nonprofit, so they were able to quote the same price as McGeorge, even though they're having to get it from Southeast. Check them out if you're in the triangle or triad area of NC. Auto Center - Truliant Federal Credit Union

We picked up our 2008 Package #2 at $500 under MSRP on April 4th in Houton, TX. The dealer threw in floor mats and couple other little items.

I was in over the weekend to pick up something and the manager I did business with told me he sold 2 Priuses just like mine over the weekend that had been ordered and the parties backed out. They were both gone in 24 hours at $2500 over MSRP. He said the Corrolla's and Camry's are moving but everything else is "dead".

He has heard that Toyota is going to delay model switch over to try to get more 2008's out. Just a rumor.

In Canada our Federal $2k rebate ends with the 2008 MY. I wonder if they will push out more 2008s in Canada for this reason.

Would that be $2?,950? If it was $2,395, then you got a steal of a deal.

Holy cow! Now they are selling salvage prius's on Ebay that have not been repaired. 2005 with 76,000 miles for $11,500. Incredible.

I have deposits down at two dealerships. The first one I placed on May 1st, and the salesman took off the dealership markup ($2500). Still stuck paying thier other fee of $699, but basically paying close to MSRP. However, that dealership has been a nightmare to work with!! Long story...

The second dealership took my deposit last week. They are going to try to get me the configuration I want in the next allocation - but we'll see. They are bigger and more reputable, but are going to charge me their extra markup of $3000, on top of their $599 dealership fee. It's all timing.

So, we'll see who gets me one first. Fortunately both dealerships wrote boldly on the paperwork that the deposits were refundable, no matter what. They obviously know they can sell them the moment they hit the lot.
