Nice try : ) but I think I've accounted for everything else... although I'm much less confident of that than I once was... I mean, how do I know if my mirrors are heated??

    No button,
I hate to ask, but does PKG2 also have a backup camera? If so, does yours?

    oooooh.

umm... DH says that implies crash damage repaired prior to delivery and not done right.

can you open the hatch with the sks?

I knew about the unlocking part (and the starting part), but not the locking part. The Toyota brochures I read didn't mention the locking part. And my salesman definitely did not tell me about it either (very nice guy; but he knew less about the Prius than I did; and his English wasn't very good).

I thought those square buttons were magic sensors.

Yeah, the hatch opens fine with the SKS. I'm pretty attuned to detail, and the only strange things I've noticed about the car are:
    1) no SKS button on hatch
    2) hatch makes rattle I would not expect when closing (I haven't listened to other Prius hatches, though)
    3) if everything's off and the car is silent, I can sometimes hear the friction brakes slightly when stopping once I get below 7 miles per hour (haven't researched this, but it seems to make sense that they would make a small amount of noise, which I can hear because everything else is silent (and I do love the silence))
    4) for the last few weeks, I could hear the rear passenger door seal making a vibration from time to time, which was just fixed during 5000 mile service
    5) the car had between 200 and 250 miles on it when I bought it. I asked where the mileage had come from before buying, and the salespeople answered that someone else had had the dealership bring it in from a somewhat distant dealership. Upon arrival, the buyer backed out, and the dealership wanted to sell it quickly (this was at the end of December). They offered a good price, the title was new, and everything seemed to check out.

The story I like now is that my car was assembled with the wrong hatch panel and it was rejected by the buyer on delivery because he had a Prius before and noticed it was missing the lock button, at which point the dealership figured most buyers wouldn't care about the missing button and were happy to quickly sell it to me under the principle that ignorance of missing lock buttons is bliss (and to that point, not having the button doesn't really bother me, despite the amount I'm talking about it).

Or it could be something more sinister...

I find it extremely unlikely that the car would get out of the plant without that button installed. I mean, a Jeep plant is one thing, but this is a Japanese Toyota plant and then the cars are inspected again when they're loaded onto the boat, and AGAIN at the port, and then AGAIN when the dealer takes delivery.

I bet the hatch was damaged...

Huntceet, you might want to try adjusting the contrast and brightness on your monitor. It sounds like variations in shades of black that help define the shape of the wiper for your eye are missing on your monitor.

Better look again ~ it's there.

But no button? Hey! Maybe you can get a new car out of it! As stated, it may have been crashed.

That seems to be the most likely reason.

I can't imagine that this car was ordered for someone, and when it came in the new owner noticed that it didn't have a button on the hatch, so he rejected it. It took me a week to even notice it! I guess it's possible, but not very likely.

I would look under the auto for signs of a fix such as paint where it shouldn't be. However, if it was just a simple hatch swap, there will be no evidence.

Click on the picture for a larger image, then click on that image for the largest image. You should be able to see it then.

If not, as suggested before, try adjusting your monitor settings.
If that doesn't work, it may be time for a visit to your optometrist. ;)

Yep, traindirector has a major anomaly there with the missing lock button. But the second anomaly I'd have the dealer fix is getting rid of that ugly dealer badge. If they ever start doing that in California, I think some dealers would be shot.

I've been wondering what the buttons were for, but was too lazy to look in my quick guide or owner's manual. Thanks!

let us know what the dealer tells you about this.. I'd be interested to see if they fix it for you no charge!

Absolutely! Ether take it off or send me a $1,000 check each year it is on there as payment for advertising.

I have gotten home and discovered they put a dealer license plate frame on the car at the last minute. First thing it comes off and in the trash. That trip from the dealer to the house is the most they get out of me.

So... I also don't have the SKS rear button. 2009 Prius. My theory is the previous owner replaced the original one.

I bought mine used at 200,000 KM about 6 months ago. Previous owner did mention that the liftgate garnish is sensitive because "his friend pulled too hard." Within a few weeks of me taking the car over, the liftgate garnish woudn't stay put on the one side, so I taped it down, and eventually it fell completely off. So now I started looking for a replacement. In searching, saw that there's a little square button.

Which led me to this thread. Why doesn't mine have the little SKS button?

My theory is that previous owner indeed replaced the factory liftgate garnish with a salvaged garnish. But I have no idea.
