They (GM) make crappy cars. It has nothing to do with who won WWII.

Heh heh... me too, as if even if GM could cobble together a half-decent Hybrid drivetrain, and have it cost anywhere near the price of a Prius, it would be so typically GM-ugly and of such poor build quality as to be laughable. I can't really understand how they keep selling Cobalts and whatnot, but I guess there is a market for ugly, poorly built rattle traps. ???

Plus GM gets no slack from me - their selfish actions over the years, i.e. undermining public light rail projects, actively lobbying against alternative energy programs... I'm sorry, what comes around goes around. Time for GM to get out of the wsy of progress, "largest" auto manufacturer be damned. They sold out America's future for their own profits.

What are you smoking? China has a hands off government? You do realize that every corporation, every employee and all aspects of Chinese life, are the government, don't you? The Chinese government controls all companies in China, and only allows 35% ownership by foreign investors., mostly for added income and tech that brings in for the Chinese government.

Not even going to go into how wrong you are on the social programs, you wouldn't understand.

I spent a good deal of time the other day reading about how GM goes about developing and mfg. their cars, in general, vs. Toyota.

The report said GM will start with a design, that design group 'throws the drawings over the wall' (so to speak) to the next group, engineering, who does the same to the manufacturing group, and so on. By the time a car is produced off the line, there's a myriad of problems. I think you get the idea - the groups don't work together much from the get go.

this article pointed out NUMMI which mfrs. the Corolla, Tacoma and Pont. Vibe, as a world class production facility. Toyota has the groups collaborate early on and throughout a new model design. The results speak for themselves.

I am more impressed with Ford than GM. I drive F250's a lot, and they are pretty darn good trucks. They got the Escape Hybrid out. I'm not seeing too many of them around though. Prius' are all over, but, duh, you already knew that.

Apparently GM has put a lot of their apples into fuel cell technology which is years away from being widely usable.

    Right on bro!

I'd rather lose one part of our manufacturing sector than to have a communist government control my life. Wealth without FREEDOM, is like a millionaire in prison with a bar soap NOT on a rope. No thanks!!!

    GM makes their own destiny.
So does everyone else in America.
    To the victor the spoils.

"When it ever gets here" ... according to the article, GM's SUV will be the FIRST to have dual mode / two electric motors.

USnews ~ HA! Better go back & do your homework. We've been driving our Lexus dual motor hybrid SUV for what ... 2 or 2 1/2 years now? Sure glad they're on top of things there at U.S. (late) news.

GM has done this for years.

I gave up on them after their abortive Oldsmobile V8 Diesel fiasco in the 70's.

I grew up in Saginaw Michigan during the 80's and 90's and had a very similar experience. I would estimate even when left in 2000 that 80 to 85% of vehicles on the road where from domesticly owned brands.

Again, the same experience. We started out with a Nissan truck and then a VW TDI in 2002 when we decided that 15 mpg wasn't going to cut it. I had also worked as an engineer in the auto industry and realized that there is very little difference between an "American" built car and a "Foreign" built car when it comest to the source of the parts.

I would buy stock now. In 5 years it will be very clear if GM will turn it around or not. If they do the stock will have already taken off. If they don't well, :(

And more jobs. Rooting against the success of GM is basically rooting against the country's economy. I say that while I wait patiently for my dealership to call me to tell me my 2008 has arrived.
