hello all, i will be joining you in a greener better world as soon as my car arrives. here in upstate NY the dealers i called have no prii in stock and just put your name on a waiting list for a deposit of $500. as you get to the number one spot you get first shot at whatever comes in for the month. i am currently #10 on the list at the closest dealer and depending how picky others are on the list the estimate is 2-3 months. :)

i see other parts of the country people can order the exact car and package they want but the wait is much longer so in the end the systems might work out about the same.

does anyone know when the 09's will be arriving?

looks like a great forum !!

I'm in the same boat. If I order now, it may not be until September or October until I get a car. At that point, I'd rather have one of the first '09's rather than the last of the '08's....especially when they are all going at MSRP.

also in upstate NY. Was told 15 weeks at a dealer 10 days ago. Found a used 2008 fleet car from a central NY dealer and sent a deposit. Should be here tomorrow or Thursday. Not so good at delayed gratification:(

Here at my dealership it works a little differently (or so they say). They have you on a list, and once they get their allocation, they will try and trade to match your preference.

For instance, I prefer a black package #2. When a red package #3 comes in, they will try to trade to get my preference, I think.

The same goes for me...I'm on a list over by Detroit. I contact all of the dealers in the lower peninsula, northern IN, and northern OH. All of the dealers told me that I would be put on a list and would wait until they got their allocation. Not one of them mentioned ordering...

I've heard the same explanation as the OP. I was told by two local (mid-Atlantic) dealers that they can't order per se, but they will take your preferences and match them against their allotment. The more picky you are the longer it may take. I've given one dealer a list of 5 or 6 exterior color choices, grey interior, and either end of the package spectrum (2 or 6). He thinks I'll have one in June.

I'm no expert on the topic but I've read that the 09's won't be out until next Spring (or Summer), after a debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January.

there are so many posts on this subject its becoming a joke...here is a typical scenario which happened to me last year and most likely to all who wait: deposit left black touring package 6, dealer said up to 2 months wait, in those 2 months i had to continuously call dealer only to be told they only had 1 touring but was grey..i said no thanks give me my deposit back and i will try something else..i kept looking at toyotas website for the dealers in this area i found a spectra blue in stock at a local dealer, they didnt know they had it. i ran down and drove it home. moral; keep your eyes open and your browser on, but dont expect the dealer to do anything for you, they can sell more than they will get in for the 08 mod's. and they love the interest theyre making on the thousands of dollars youve all given them.
sorry for the news, i worked for a dealer that had a high demand vehicle and this is how it worked..
ps: they will now sell you out to someone who is offering MSRP+++

We were lucky when we got ours mid April. We went online and picked the options that we wanted and printed it out. Call the Warner Robins dealership and wanted to test drive one before we purchased one. We were told that one was coming in that night and when could we come to test drive. We were there at 9AM the next morning. We were able to take it around a big city block for a test drive. The one I printed out was not available, but they were able to intercept one that was going to Florida. We placed our $500 deposit on Thursday and picked ours up on Monday. They had the windows tinted before we picked it up. The dealer said he used his May allotment for the two they sold that day. We were going to wait until the end of this month to purchase ours, it is a good thing we did not wait. We now have 1117 miles on it and are so proud to be Prius owners!

When we first began our search I think there were a couple of package 2s in our area, but mostly package 6s. We wanted a package 2. I went through the Costco and AAA buying program websites and was matched up with a couple of their preferred dealers. I don't think either dealer had one in stock but one of them had a group of them coming in and told me what they were and which ones were already spoken for. They had a blue one with package 2 so we gave a $200 deposit to hold it. It was supposed to arrive about a week later but was delayed. The new expected arrival date was when we would be out of town on vacation so we asked the dealer to hold it for us for a few days until we got back in town.

In the meantime, I kept checking Cars.com and our local dealers to check their stock but there simply weren't any to be had in our area - even extending the search to 100 miles or so away!

I was a little nervous that they would sell it before we got back, even though we had a deposit. The good news is that they *did* hold it for us even though they had some offers to buy it while it was waiting for us.

I think the 2009s aren't due until the early spring and if the wait in your area is in the fall, I guess you have to decide if you want to wait or not. We chose not to wait since gas prices keep rising!

I've seen stroies that seem to indicate the the 09's won't be available until about this time next year.

Toyota & co. are milking this for all its worth, it should be lots different when the competition shows up (eg Honda, Nissan, GM ...)

Where are you getting this info? Because I've seen articles that specifically say spring of 09.

Nope. The articles I've read specifically said the 09's would be out next spring.

the new model years usually come out in september. since the 2010 is a next gen, it is being introduced in the spring of 2009. thats what i've read. the 08's came out in august/sept of 07 as did the 07's which came out in aug/sept of 06

I just put in my order for a prius on may 28 and the dealer said it would be 4 to 6 months. We built ours to order, a spectra touring package 5 and he assured me it would be a 2009 model.

Well, that certainly makes more sense to me. I've also seen where they will be taking orders for the 09's soon and I thought that didn't sound right if they were not going to be available for a year.
