Well, most police officers are complete idiots. I was jokingly asking an officer if it was possible to make a go-kart street legal, if so, then how? He said, "That it would need bumpers and doors and stuff." I was completely speechless, and walked away.
8) IsrAmeriPrius, Just last month took my son skiing at Breckenridge, CO. I would say that approx.85% of the business were non-smoking. Ben
It really seems selfish and pompous to think that because we drive such a "special" car we somehow deserve to be able to park in the EV spots. Sure, you could probably make it look as though you had a plug-in, to anyone who didn't know what the Prius is. And your chances of getting caught probably are not great, especially with so few people caring about those spaces. But it sure seems to me like a bad case of the gimme's. (I don't count Wolfman in this, because he specifically asked the store manager for permission.) The Prius is not an EV and it's not a zero-emissions vehicle. PZEV is Partial Zero Emissions, with the emphasis on Partial because the great majority of the time it is burning gas. It's one thing to promote incentives for people to buy more efficient cars, and another thing to demand special privileges after the fact for having bought one. And it's an entirely different thing to expropriate for yourself your own private exemption from the law because you feel you ought to have been given special privileges.
No estoy hablando de la ley. Estoy hablando de respetar a sus semejantes. Y de no dar la impresion que seamos todos cabrones e idiotas.
Someone stated, "I doubt that minimum wage worker at costco will be able to tell the prius from an EV car or even care that a hybrid car is in the EV spot." Well...I'll have you know that while I was driving down the streets of downtown Los Angeles, a transient came yelling from across the street talking to what I assume was his imaginary friend (since there wasn't anyone else around...from what I could see) and said, "Now that's what I want! A Toyota Prius hybrid! 50-60 miles per gallon! Oh, yeah!" So...Perhaps a minimum wage worker at CostCo WOULD know that a Prius is a hybrid and know the difference. Like more than one stated here...Let's not give Prii drivers a bad reputation. The Prius is not an EV; therefore, we don't have the right to part in an EV parking spot. Simple. Besides...If we were all "progressive" (Proggys) enough to want to buy a hybrid vehicle then we would probably be smart enough to admit that walking a little further (if and when we had to) to our destination would be...healthier????????
Ben, like I said, it's not a question of the law. It's about respecting other folks. Those parking spaces were not meant for us. If we use them we're no better than a Hummer-driver who uses them, and we send out a message to everyone else: "Prius drivers are a bunch of selfish a-holes." Mostly we're not. Let's not act like we are.
8) daniel, MHO I should have read your posting closer. I also need to bring my spanish book home it appears. I speak it all the time but have not kept up on reading and writing it. So if I mispelled anything sorry. Ben
Are you actually saying that a minimum wage worker doesn't know about hybrid cars? What does what a person make have to do with car knowledge?
My, we are pompous tonight. The police officers I know are college educated and able to hold intelligent conversations. Police officers are idiots and minimum wage earners don't know about cars. I'm learning a lot here tonight.
I wouldn't do it myself. If I did, I would probably have to rate myself right up there in this league. [Broken External Image]:http://photos.starjewel.org/albums/Random/compacthummer.jpg
Yeah we have one of thosetypes at work that owns a full size chevy truck that does this. He's also incapable of parking it without taking up two spaces either. I was also at Fried Electronics last night to pick up Hal. When I left, some other loser in an Infiniti Q45 parked in one of the spaces reserved for police cars. Gee, I guess Irving is buying some REALLY nice cruisers these days.
Cops have college degrees? Since when? They take them out of high school. Costco pays better than minimum wage, they claim.
Robert Taylor, I used to see 4 or 5 cops on a regular basis where I worked about 5 years ago. 4 of them were working on their masters degree in criminal behavior and law. This is one of the ways for a patrolman to get promoted to detective. Cops with bachelor's degrees is very common. And cops working on bachelor's degrees is even more common. This was in Boston Mass. Where is Rocket City? Mark
8) Robert Taylor, At one time the federal government did not require a collage degree to enter the law enforcement profession. That being said, now it seems to be that a BA is the minimum requirement for an entry level job. Ben
Robert Taylor: Not quite sure how your police agencies work in your area, but it'd be close to impossible to get "a kid" straight out of high school into a police academy (or the Department for that matter) since it requires one to be at least 21 years of age to start. Unless, of course, the student was set back three or four years and he graduates from high school at age 21. Oh, and yes, from my knowledge about "big city" police agencies, a bachelor degree is an educational requirement (not necessarily "criminal justice" either). As for the SUBJECT of parking in EV spots...That should be "a given" simple answer: No. We can't park in an EV spot because, we (my fellow Prius drivers), are not EV drivers. We are PZEV. Since we appear to have been progressive enough to purchase/drive a Prius hybrid, we should be "enlightened" enough to know better. At this point in time, like it or not, hybrid drivers are part of a unique sub-culture (so to speak). We, therefore, should try not to taint our reputation by taking short-cuts(no pun intended).
