My apologies if I've posted in the wrong forum. My good friend was backing out of her driveway and accidentally hit my car. In doing so, she cracked the passenger-side tail light on her Prius.

I would like to try to find a replacement for her. As I have zero experience with these vehicles, I thought perhaps someone could advise me on where to get aftermarket parts at reasonable prices.

    Thank you for any assistance.

    Regards,

    Skates

If by "aftermarket" you mean a new part not manufactured by Toyota, this will not be available. Sometimes eBay lists salvage parts, however as of this writing only a cracked passenger side light is available.

If you want to buy a new replacement, the discounted dealer price is $138 (MSRP $181). See:

Thank you very much. Yes, I looked on e-bay and was excited to find that someone was selling a perfect tail light the other day for about $140 - unfortunately it was for the driver side.

The site you recommended has a very good price - I appreciate your help.

You could also try a local salvage yard.

Yes, I have a web-crawler searching all of the Los Angeles area salvage yards right now - so far, no luck...

If LKQ online does not offer the needed part on ebay right now, better email them. A lot of prius stuff seems to end up in their bucket.

That's a coincidence...LKQ just emailed me that they have a used part for $110. I was trying to figure out if they were a reputable company before making the purchase.

If you can get a new part for $138, why buy a used part of unknown reliability and longevity for $110?

    Two reasons:

1 - If they are a reputable dealer, then the used part will be fine because all I need is the lens - all the other parts (bulbs, etc) from the original car can be used or kept as back-up parts (in fact, I believe all I'm getting is the lens housing - no moving/mechanical parts to worry about).

    2 - I'm doing a favor for a friend and I'm paying...:D
