I put in my order on the 4th of May actually but that was a Sunday so it probaly didn't really go in until the 5th. This is at a major dealer in Houston. The sales guy is pretty sketchy on when it will be arriving or where it is in the queue so I was wondering if anyone else had recently taken delivery of a factory order (not something that they found that was already enroute or the like) or had any idea when the cars that are arriving now were actually ordered.

I'm also kind of wondering if I will actually end up getting a 2008 or whether in the end It will come down to choosing an alternate car vs. waiting even longer for a 2009.

For me, this is extremely reminiscent of the process I went through getting a 2005 smart car in Canada when they first came out. Orders were taking up to 4-5 months to fill and there wasn't a lot of options to take different cars either.

Getting this car in Houston is part of a move to the US so timing is pretty important.. would love to have the car for June 30.. so thats a 2 month duration. Any ideas on CHEAP temporary transportation if I am stuck without a car waiting?

    Cheers,
    DDR

probably stuck waiting but I think the wait time differs in different parts of the country. Here in Central FL I still see Prii on the lot! Must either have a lot in the pipeline or just a lot of stupid people who don't want to drive a smarter car and would rather race at 90 mph from gas pump to the bank to the next gas pump!

    good luck.

If you're in need of temporary transportation, you could always try to find a deal on a high miles used Prius. Good chance you won't lose out on depreciation much or at all when you sell it in a few months. I've seen a few US 1st generation Prii for less than $10k and a few 2004's for around 13k.

My car allocated on May 22. We placed our order about 30 days prior and it took that long to allocate.

According to the dealer the delivery window is currently between June 20th and July 10th. He added that they normally come in toward the beginning of the window.

My car is a 2008 Touring pkg 6 in Spectra Mica Blue. The dealer is in Cleveland, OH.

    Hope this helps.

Yea, the terminology is quite different with Toyota than when we were all awaiting our smart cars in Canada.

My order is from Houston and a very high volume dealer there (Fredd Haas Toyota World). Houston is apparently the port where they come in for that part of the country too which might shave some time off.

What I'm hearing from you is that time from "Allocation" to delviery is ROUGHLY 1.5 months. Meaning that if it were "allocated" tomorrow I'd be looking at mid July.

Does anyone know what "Allocated" really means? Does that mean that a finished car has rolled off the line and has been assigned to a specific customer? Or does it mean that the car has been "Allocated" for production and is about to enter the line (so it can be built to customer spec!).
