Is 2008 Touring Pkg 2 not an option anymore?

Last week I put down a deposit with a dealer for a new 2008 Prius Touring with Package 2 (HG). The Toyota Prius brochure at the dealership included in Package2 (HG) : VSC, Backup Camera and Smart Key System, and other options. The dealer also printed an inventory detail report listing the above options and quoted me a retail price of $23770 for the Vehicle and $600 for Package 2 (HG). I came away satisfied and prepared to wait my turn in the queue. A few days later, the dealership called me to inform that Toyota does not provide Package2 (HG) as an option for Prius Touring anymore. I was given a choice of Package 3 if I wanted VSC, and an additional cost of $1600 for Package 3.
Has anyone in this forum had a similar experience ? I want to go for Prius Touring with VSC. I am not particular about the Backup camera or Smart key and take them only because they are bundled in the package. What is the correct option package for Prius Touring that will include VSC ? What is the correct MSRP and package price ? Appreciate in advance.

    puvat,

Hello and welcome to PC!!! You don't specify where you are located so I can't provide specific info related to your particular piece of the USA. However, I will try to address your questions as best as I can.

    1. No. I didn't have to endure the switch and bait Dealer routine during the buying process. In my ZIP code (Oklahoma), Toyota still shows Package 2 in the Touring Model as still available for ordering (as well as Pkgs 3, 5, & 6). All of our Prii come into the US thru Gulf States Toyota.

    2. The lowest Touring option Package that will include VSC is Package 2.

    3. I went to Edmonds.com and priced out a Touring Pkg 2 in Driftwood Pearl. Their TMV pricing (What others are paying in my ZIP CODE) was as follows:

    Base Price $23,770
    Region Adjustment $136
    (For my ZIP Code)
    HG Pkg #2 $$563
    Color Adj $51
    Dest. Charge $660

    MSRP = $25,005 and TMV = $24,559

Recommend you go to Toyota.com, input your ZIP Code and see if they show Touring, Package 2's available in your area. Then, go to Edmonds.com, input your ZIP Code and build your Touring to get your area pricing specifics. Hope this helps and Good Luck.

I live in Texas (so, supplied by GST as well) and was told by a few dealers you cannot get pkg #2 on a touring in this area. You can still build it online (which makes it appear as though it's available in your zip code region) but cannot order it - at least not down here. Maybe someone else has had a different experience?

I will say I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't want the Smart Key though. That's one of my favorite features.

I am in Maryland and about to order my Prius, but three dealers have told me that Tourings are not brought into the Mid-Atlantic area. Is that true? Do we know why?

Dealer's response is that Toyota is not supplying them package 2. Toyota also states that not all packages are available in all regions, although neither will confirm specifics.
It's bad enough that demand exceeds supply and T can raise price and dictate options. I'd hate to see the dealer slip a few options of his own and blame Toyota in the process.
Smart Key imo is a 'nice to have' option that I hope will become a standard feature someday. I fear I will forever be looking for my misplaced SmartKey like my misplaced cell phone that I forgot to unmute ringer before misplacing ;)

Go to the link in my post above, put in your zip code. You're in the same region as I am so I think you'll see what I see - no option to select a Touring from a local dealer.

I don't know why - they just want to sell us base models with 5s and 6s instead.

I tried the website and was also unable to select Touring options. I then went to the dealer and asked for available models and options. I chose Touring Package2 (HG) from Prius brochure in showroom and the dealer accordingly printed a vehicle inquiry report and quote. To the dealer's credit, he quoted MSRP and even tried to steer me towards other Toyota's with very attractive discounts while warning me about long wait times for prii. Now, i'm trying to figure out the dealer's intent when I'm being told that I need to go with a higher package for the options I want.
My must haves over a base model are : Tuned suspension, 16" wheels, and VSC

I was told there were supply problems with the batteries and hopefully the probem would be resolved in the near future. Of course I was told this by a dealer, so not sure how much stock to put in that...
