When using the Smart Key and opening the driver side door by touching the handle it ONLY unlocks the driver side door. When using the Smart Key and unlocking the passenger side door by touching the handle the WHOLE car unlocks. Is this a normal thing?? Why doesn't the whole car unlock when touching the driver's side door handle? Thanks PC!

There's a way to program that. I don't know it off the top of my head.

What you explained sounds kind of right for the default setting. I think.

    there are 3 settings.
Unlock drivers only / unlock all at passenger door and hatch (default setting)
Unlock all doors at any point of entry
Unlock point of entry door only (drivers, passenger, hatch)

I think to change the settings stand outside of the car with doors closed and press and hold both the panic button and the lock button on the key FOB for about 5 seconds until it beeps.

Check your owner's manual. You can program it so the driver's door only opens (default) or driver's and passenger's doors open when you touch the driver's side handle. I guess it depends on where you drive. If you think there's a possibility of an unwanted guest joining you in the passenger seat, leave it as it came. If you want your spouse to be able to get in more quickly without your having to reach inside and unlock it, re-program it. Your choice.

Check the owners manual - page 43 for the 08, there are three settings, available:
1)Driver door alone, passenger all, 2) All Doors, 3) Single door.
Saftey thing I guess if your a SF, but with kids I have set to unlock all for convenience

Wow! Thanks for all the great posts. I'll try to switch settings tomorrow so the passenger door unlocks for my wife when I touch the driver's side handle.

Shouldn't you be on the passenger side opening the door for your wife? ;)

I second that. You will be surprised by how much your wife will like you opening the car door for her.

I did my doors to open everything a few days ago. Best thing I ever did. When I was pushing buttons on my Camry key I always hit it twice.

I tried that. She says, "I can do it myself..."

Did anyone reprogram their smart key to open ALL doors? If so how?

My manual shows the settings but says that it is done by Toyota Service - unless I am missing something.

My wife thanks me for it, but says that she can get it herself.

See page 43 of your 2008 owner's manual for exact instructions on how to change this. "Switching the Door Unlock Function"

You can also press the unlock button on the driver's side door when you get into the car. That way, the other doors are unlocked only when there are passengers.

If a man opens the car door for his wife, either the car is new or the wife is.
