    hello to all.

i've lurked around the forums learning bits here and there, but i thought it's time to start posting. my mom has a black '05 prius with the #8 package (or whatever package has the hid+navi+smartkey), hence my "non prius/hybrid car" info. i have a '03 camry le myself, but i drive my mom's car often around town (gas savings is a no brainer). also, there are 3 other priuses (er... prii?) in the whole family. additionaly, the topics on ways to increase mpg are pretty interesting- especially the non-prius-specific ones (i've been using cruise control to death in every car i drive nowadays). as for the prius-specific techniques, i think the "pulse" driving is also pretty impressive- the results speak for themselves imo.

    "mods" to the prius:
white led interior lighting (8 leds on a board in place of dome light X2)
white led plate (cheapo imported wide-angle)
white led puddle/courtesy (ditto as above^)
trim rings (or lack thereof; mpg decrease my nice person)
    debadged (just the "toyota" badge)

(tint is soon to come as soon as i find out the percentage on the little strip on the hatch between the taillights. anyone chime in on this? 30-35% i assume?)

    "mods" to the camry:
    rebased hid 9006 low beam
    nokya yellow high beam
    pioneer 6x9 speakers
white led interior lighting (identical to prius's setup)
white led plate (again identical setup.
    white neon in trunk
    15%R and 35%F tint
sparco pedals and floormats (yeah- floormats)
    black-framed broadway mirror

also, some of you may remember me as lextasyoverdose in TN or some lexus forums.

    Howdy and welcome!

The hardest part is the color match, not the darkness! It is an odd brown color compared to all the tints I tried. It is pretty light, that little strip. Probably close to 50%. I did my rear window at ~30%, and had to add some 80% to that little strip just to get it close. Color is still all screwed up, but I don't notice it any longer. Not noticeable from OUTside the car at all. Just looking through it from inside.

you're right. color match would be tricky i assumed (it's like the same brownish tint ic on the previa), but since it's mostly shielded from the sun by the spoiler thing, i'm not too worried about it not matching the rest of the tint. i'm thinking about 35% all around btw.

speaking of the hatch, i also did that rear wiper thing so it can be lifted all the way. much easier to fully clean the window thanks to PC. i put that inititial design desicion in the same bin with ugly plastic trim rings imo.

I'm a BIG fan of 20% on the sides, and 35% in the rear. Great night visibility out the rear, and more light rejection from the sides. This makes it though any of the windows from outside. One big reason I tint is for security. I discovered this several vehicles ago, and REALLY like it. (fronts are kept clear by law here in CA, so I'm only speaking of the windows behind the driver).

If you're doing 35% on the upper rear window, I'd just do 35% on that lower bit as well and call it a day.

Hey, great, but my initials are DD, not PC! :)

eh, i think i'll stick with the 35 all around- that was the request of my mom recently. she saw the differences between the percentages, and she settled for 35.

actually, now that i remember... that's where i got the instructions from. so thanks to DD indeed. lol.

consider this a re-introduction, as i haven't posted in quite a while, and i'm pretty much getting used to this forum once again.

changes to the prius in bold (mainly just tint):
as for the camry, that has changed quite a lot. pics of both when i remember where i stashed that camera.

i'm planning to purchase a scangauge or similar device, but for the camry. switching between both cars is like night and day- the camry needs all the help it can get in terms of mpg. haha.
