"Upgrading" a Package 1 2008 Prius for under 1-1.5K???

    Hello and thank you for any input that you may be able to offer.

    Concern:
    I purchased a 2008 Prius under the premise that it was a Package 3 model. This is what I was told repeatedly at the dealership. Upon driving off the lot, I personally noticed that the vehicle was in fact a Package 1 model. When I brought the issue up, I was told that the dealership never had a Package 3 and that due to high demand, it would be impossible to get one.

    Question:
    1. I contacted the company's customer service line with my concern and they are fortunately being very helpful. The concern is, I was told by the dealer that due to the way the interior electronics are configured, it would be impossible to install the package 3 stock stereo system (with bluetooth capability), anti theft system, and backup camera into my model; features which come with a Package 3 vehicle. Is this true??? I am very frustrated because I was willing to wait on the 3 month waiting list for the components I wanted, now I am stuck.
    2. Would installing a 3rd party Backup camera, security system, and radio/bluetooth system void any of my warranty?
    3. If possible and if it would not void my warranty, I would like to install 3rd party electronics to compensate what I do not have. Without going over 1-1.5K can anyone make any recommendations for audio systems (which will allow me to use the main screen to control my ipod and bluetooth capable phone) and backup cameras (I live in NYC and can definitely parallel park, but sometimes one NEEDS to grab that tight spot).

    I'm very low maintenance and do not care about competing in any car audio shows, I just want something that sounds decent.


    Any advice or insight provided would be very much appreciated.

    Just out of curiousity: How did you get a package one when you thought it was a package 3? There is a huge difference, starting with the key system, which you would have noticed before you left the lot. Did they charge you for a package 3? What did the window sticker say? In other words, what the heck happened? :(

    haha, yes the perils of a new car buyer. I am in the process of remedying the situation (as best possible) at the moment. I'll keep everyone posted.

    Did you pay Package 3 MSRP for a package 1? There should have been a long list of what the car has on a window sticker. Did you read through the list to see if it had what you wanted? If not, you are remiss. If the dealer sold you a package 3 at package 3 prices and then switched cars, that's fraud.
