How about a faster way to skim the threads?

I post on several different discussion boards and PriusChat is one of the busier. I'm accustomed to browsing maybe 50-100 updated threads per day but this place is regularly pushing 200.

Everyone seems to get along pretty well and the threads are well categorized (thanks!) but I'm not here to hang out at FHOP. I'm just trying to improve my general Prius level of knowledge while skimming for things I need to know about our model. In fact I usually skip every forum below "The File Library", mark it all as read, and move on.

The best way I've found to review updated threads is to click on the home page's "View New Posts" link and scan through all ~200 updated threads. However that takes about 10 minutes (25 posts per page) and it's all done by eyeball. Or I could click on each forum, go through the updated threads, and move to the next forum. Pretty cumbersome, even with the faster server. I'm open to suggestions on a faster method.

An admin on another busy vBulletin board has come up with a method to ignore whole categories of threads, including sorting by forum. He's tested it for a few weeks and there are the inevitable bugs but the open-source code appears to be working well: Comprehensive Ignore System - vBulletin.org Forum

Danny, is there any chance of adding that comprehensive "Ignore" feature to this board? Failing an "Ignore" feature, what about modifying "View New Posts" to display 100 or even 200 threads on a single page vice the default 25 links per page? Thanks.

    Danny,

+1 on this idea, I'd love to be able to see more than 25 posts per page on the "View New Posts".

Another thing that might be nice would be a way to mark multiple threads in the "View New Posts" as read without opening them. Perhaps such a feature exists and I ust don't know how to use it?

Perhaps go to the forums and mark all those that you don't read regulary as "Read" and then go to View New Posts? Sort of a poor man's filtering?

If I was making a wish list... I'd like to be able to see the date that the thread was started in the list of "new posts" and be able to sort by that.

I'd like to be able to ignore most of the "game" type threads (one word, two words, etc).

While wishing: I too would like to be able to mark some forums to be ignored, i.e. Fred's House of Pancakes, when I search for new posts.

I would like to be able to see a list of new threads as an addition to the new posts.

Perhaps if there were a way to "tag" the game threads and then set a flag in my CP to ignore them forever it would help. Perhaps under Thread Tools another option to "Ignore this thread"

This form is much like the Prius: a few quirks but still great.

    Thanks Denny,
    Bob

I'll definitely look into the possibilities that this mod would present to the forum. I was actually beta testing a program with a few users who were able to block certain forums from the "View New Posts" page. When I did the forum upgrade, it messed up that program, and I haven't sat down to figure out why yet. It looks like I may not need to.

This would probably be a feature that would be a part of a "Premium" membership that I'm going to be implementing.

Filtering threads would be a great help. I really don't care about the non Prius stuff

"Premium" meaning for a fee to existing members who wish to "upgrade" to the new features?

Considering the amount of reliable information, great discussions, and a few laughs, I would not mind chipping a few bucks for a enhanced featured pkg!!

At the very least, a heartfelt THANK YOU DANNY for your efforts.
