    Has anyone tried sisal mats?

Wow Madeleine, talk about a blast from the past! I didn't know these were still being made.

I had custom fit Coco mats way back in the Seventies. I liked the natural fiber look and feel of them. The ones I had though tended to curl and bunch up. But I see that they now make them with a rubber/vinyl backing; so I'm guessing that they no longer curl and bunch up like before, and they're more protective of your carpeting from spills.

For those of you who don't remember or know about sisal or coco mats, here's one website that sells them:

I use a lot of natural fibers. I prefer them. But I wouldn't use sisal in my car. Fine parts of it tend to break-off when it's dry, which it is for maybe 1.5 months at a time in my state. :D

And, it absorbs moisture, although it dries quickly.

Sorry, I have to go with rubber for mats in my Prius. Of course, I am in and out of dirt and mud and other assorted muck all day, in a very damp climate.

But, again, I would not like the breaking off of fine hairs. Oh, and I would think that dirt would get stuck deep down in the fibers and be very tough to remove, until it worked it's way out the other side and down into the carpet below.

I have a set of Coco mats in my Miata (from Natural Auto Products) and highly recommend them. They look great, are easy to clean, fit perfect (custom fit) and absolutely don't move around or bunch up.

    Cheers!

I think sisal looks great, at first, coco, also, but they are not the same fiber. At any rate, I would be interested in how either of them held up after several months of use as a floor mat

I've had Cocomats in my Miata for about a year now. Liked 'em so much I got a set for the Prius. Following are recent photos of each:

Compared to the OEM carpeted mats that came with the Prius, the Cocomats are a breeze to clean, and being predominantly black, don't show the dirt nearly as quickly as the 'bisque' carpet mats.

By the way, does anyone have an idea what a used (two month old) set of OEM mats would sell for should I decide to unload them?

    Cheers!
