I'm about to by a prius and i had two questions about using an ipod in a prius. One was if you click skip track on your car cd player/steering wheel(I don't know if you can on the steering wheel...Can you?) will it change the track on the ipod or do you actualy have to click on the ipod to change songs. Second is a lot more random. Is there anyway to desplay album art on the screen, or if it is even possible.
    Thanks.:ranger:

HMMMMMMM......i have a package #6, it has an aux plug inside the center armrest............i plug in my IPOD via the 1/4 plug and i work the IPOD just as if i were holding it. maybe i'm not doing it right, but that's the way i'm using it.

does anyone else know how they can integrate the stereo to control the IPOD???

BTW............i'm looking into getting a 2nd prius...................since i read that you're about to get one, what ru going to pay for it and where? thanks in advance and good luck.

the aux input isnt ipod specific. anything with a headphone jack will work, and its not integrated to the steering wheel or touch screen at all.

you have to install your product of choice to get that capability. the prius chat store sells the DICE which is supposedly somewhat easily to install yourself, though may be worth having a professional do.

and i dont think anything out there displays album art. not sure though

I found all of the integrated iPod options to be limited. Some need playlist with not over 99 songs, none handle bookmarks, ect. I plug in my iPod into the Aux port and use the iPod native controls. There is enough gap to close the center arm rest and put the iPod in the cup holder.

I just installed the DICE on my 05. There are a million reviews on here for it and VAIS system, so I won't go into that (I like mine, though!). I do want to say that the install was amazingly simple, following the directions found here on PC.

I paid for the DICE to be installed because I didn't want to screw something up.

I LOVE IT! I have 800 songs on mine and have never had a problem with the play list and being able to change songs from the steering wheel controls is great.

i am buying my car in about 3 months and only know what car i want, no idea what I'm paying or where. I know its pretty stupid and there's probably no way ill actually get one, but I'm hopping to get a 09. I went to the toyota dealer in Santa Monica, and they didn't even have a show car and were out of brochures. So i'm probablly more lost than you are, but if you find anything out or if there's anything I should know about prii before buying one I would love to know. Thanks.

Can an ipod be used via a cd/dvd player's A/V input (with output already connected to the factory screen) to either play or play and display on the factory screen?

Not exactly what you're looking for, but I out one of these in my 2008 package 2 Prius:

Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. - eX-10

Can't control the next track through the controls on the wheel but has a nice wireless remote. Shows album art and allows you to control the iPod menus fully. Also has built-in bluetooth that pauses the iPod for calls and sends the sound through the stereo. I have mine installed in the console with the display to the left of my steering wheel. I'm happy with it so far. I was able to hide all of the wires without taking the dash apart at all and used the cigarette lighter jack inside the console for power. Best part is that the screen plugs into a cradle and takes only a second or so to remove and stash or take with you.

If you plug an iPod in the AUX port in the center arm rest you have zero control over the iPod using the steering wheel or radio buttons. The only thing that works is volume for the radio itself.

If you want to control the iPod through the steering wheel you have to get either the DICE unit or VAIS. Neither are inexpensive.

Personally I REALLY like ours and am glad I bought it. The new Silver model that they sell now is a different story. EVERYTHING is in alphabetical order and everything is just weird and didn't work like I expected. I am back to using the "old" one.

With the old one, and sort of the Silver unit, all the steering wheel controls works.

As for bookmarks in books. I don't know what the other person is talking about. Bookmarks in audio books work great.
