If the car is running and I exited the car and someone jumped in and hijacked it how far will the car go without the smart key?

How come if my wife carries her smart key and touches the passenger door the door will unlock for her however if she does not carry her smart key and I open the driver's door the passenger door remains locked.
    It is an interesting phenomena......

are the smart key batteries available everywhere they sell fob batteries or are they SPECIAL? (TOYOTA ONLY AND EXPENSIVE)

Question #1: Answered in many posts, until it runs out of gas, or is shut off.

They can go until they either run out of gas or turn the car off. At that point they can not restart the car.

You can program your car so the driver's door sensor will unlock all doors. It's in the owner's manual. Wait ... was your wife in the car in question one with her smart key?

You can get batteries anywhere that sells watch or clock batteries. Regular lithium 2032.

    Q1: ditto above
Q2: It comes from the factory set so that when the drivers door is touched only that door unlocks but when the passenger door is touched they all unlock. I found this annoying as well and changed it so all doors unlock from the drivers side. It is in the manual somewhere.

Were these "Smart Key" questions; or "Smart", key questions?

Another smart key question - if the smart key battery goes dead, how do you start the car?

The small regular key in the fob will open the door and the fob then can be placed in the key slot under the steering wheel to start the car, if the battery is dead in the SKS.

Fortunately, there are no dumb key questions.

The same way that the folks without the smart key do it. Stick it in the slot.
