Article in the paper today says some drivers are crossing the border into Mexico for cheaper gas. It's not quite half what it is here. Pemex is somewhere south of $3.00 for regular. But the border stations are running out.

San Diego drivers appreciate Mexico's cheap gas.

"A gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in San Diego retails for an average price of $4.61 a gallon. A few miles south, in Tijuana, it's about $2.54 — even less if you pay in pesos."

"The differential in diesel is even greater, selling at $5.04 a gallon in San Diego County and $2.20 in Tijuana."

"Gas is cheaper in Mexico because of a government subsidy intended to keep inflationary forces in check.

Still, international gas-buying trips don't make sense for everyone. The wait getting back into the U.S. at the border in Tijuana frequently takes longer than two hours and cars can burn about a gallon of gas for each hour they idle."

Gas here near the Houston area are about $3.89 at the corner Texaco where I am.

I am sure the San Diego drivers appreciating the cheap Mexican gas is are the SUV and fuel-hogging Tahoe drivers lol.

But the Prius doesn't idle, so it could work out depending upon how much you think your time is worth.

A little bit far for me to drive though. :(

How big of a fuel tank could you fit into the hatchback with seats down. :)

    Let's see: 16.1 cubic feet= 456 litres = 120 US gallons.

If you save $2 per gallon, that's $240 minus the cost of some stabilizer.

Heck, I could save over $1 a gallon just by driving 60 miles south to US.

Is Mexican gas good; any water or contamination issues ?

I suppose you'd have to declare the gas as an import, unless perhaps the tank was tied into the Prius fuel system as an auxiliary tank... :)

$4.579 at Chevron this evening. I was down to one pip.

Did I mention that my crazy GF bought a motorhome? 75 gal tank. That would run the Prius for about 6 mos.

My corner Arco changed it's sign to $4.53, but the cones and orange fencing was still up last night. Maybe they're limiting their hours now but I haven't seen them open and pumping gas.

Cali must have the highest priced gasoline in the nation.

We have 3.99/gallon for regular (Shell). I am sure it is still on its way up up and up.

Alaska was the first state to hit $4 per gallon.

According to an article in the Sac Bee, Calif average is now $4.60/gal.

Holding steady at $4.65 at the local Chevron station. Arco is $4.43, Costco is $4.41. Haven't seen premium for over $5 yet.

I paid 4.419 yesterday. I've only had my Prius since August and I paid 2.599 for a couple of tanks last fall In February I paid as low as $2.859. I bet within a year of owning my Prius the cost of gas will have doubled. 2.5 months and 78 cents to go.

Hey, I just saw a gas station sign this morning advertising Unleaded at $4.91. However, I believe it was the result of a kid's prank, because Plus and Premium were $4.92 and $4.93, while yesterday the prices were $4.19, $4.29, and $4.39.

The current price in Anchorage is $4.30. I read the article about the average price of gas hitting $4/gal first in AK, but it was a little skewed. Almost half the state's population lives in Anchorage, with a few living in small villages paying upwards of $8/gal. The average was not weighted by population density or volume of fuel sold, so the $8/gal villages skewed the state's average price pretty dramatically. So, while our average is $4.45, most people in the state are likely paying less than that.
