I just picked up my (our) new Prius on Saturday! I (we) have been waiting for about a month! I'm including the obligatory double possession, as my lovely wife has gently reminded me that this is our new toy and I am to share like a good little boy ;) I feel like the car commercial where the husband and wife are getting up earlier and earlier to have the new car, until they're finally sleeping in their clothes!

My story is kind of interesting. We started looking for a Prius in early May. Our current vehicle, a 2004 Pontiac Vibe had been in an accident in late 06 and it never really was the same, after. The body work and internal work done to it was amazing (all OEM, etc.. etc...), but it just never felt right. I think it was some sort of psychological stigma I had attached to the car after all the damage. In any case, we looked at oodles of numbers, and figured that the Prius' price plus gas savings wold be nearly equal to what we were paying for the Vibe plus gas. No brainer, right? Have a brand new car that will hold its value far better than our current one. After some number crunching, demonstration of figures and a lengthy presentation, I got my wife on board.

We posted our car (Vibe) for sale and figured it might take a while to get something near what we wanted. (asking 10k) Great, we're now on a waiting list for the Prius until August, so we'll have plenty of time! The very next day, the calls started pouring in! Within a week, a gentleman had committed to buying te Vibe for my asking price! No negotiations! WOW.. we didn't expect that. He knows about the accident, had all sort of inspections, etc... loves the car! (I'm sure it helped that I did a complete interior and exterior detailing) So, wonderful, we sold our car! But WAIT! We don't have a replacement yet!

I call my current waitlisted dealer and let him know we need one now and ask how resourceful he is to find one. He laughed at me and told me there is no way we'll get one sooner than August. I like a challenge, and I don't like to be told no (I'm active duty Air Force, and being told no is not common) So, I started calling dealerships. (I am in southwestern Ohio... Dayton area) Within 2 days, I had 3 Prius offers to drive at that very moment and pick one up! Unfortunately, the gentleman who is going to buy my car has not paid for it, so I didn't jump on them. There was a Spectra Blue package 2, too! Darnitt!

So, a few days later when I am sure we will be paid for the Vibe, I get a call for a Silver #2 coming in 3 weeks. It's mine if I want... no deposit... just complete the buyer's agreement. My dealer was awesome every step of the way, and so helpful! As a recommendation... Call Tom Pseekos at Alan Nott Toyota in Lima, OH. He really hooked me up, and went above and beyond my expectations.

I drove the 75 miles North to pick it up, with my father-in-law on Saturday, and now have a very shiny silver Prius in our driveway! (Unfortunately now, our other can is a 99' Explorer!.. We need it for hauling) I'm very excited to be learning how to get efficient MPG and play with all the new toys of the Prius. I will order the stiffening plate soon, and am looking to get the windows tinted.

Waiting even 3 weeks drove me near insane, but reading all the awesome things about the PRius here got me through. Now, all I have to do is learn how to apply P&G and stay in stealth, and etc.. etc... It's like having a new video game as a kid! Beat the gas mileage monster by keeping my levels up!

Thanks for reading my long, and somewhat boring story. (It's actually long and more detailed, but I have to go to work!) I'm so happy to be a new Prius inductee and thank everyone for their support of such a great site! Danny... fantastic idea for starting it!

I am an avid reader of PC at work, but uncle sam decided that I can not log in. Probably best to just sit by and read for weeks... there's a lot of info here after you sift through some of the newbie posts (like this one, full of senseless dribble and rambling!) Thanks to all those who've gone through the trials and tribulations of learning the Prius, and shared those with us! (Ok, I'm starting to sound like an Oscars speech with the thank you's)

Off to shower, don the uniform and jump in the shiny new Prius! (If my wife doesn't decide she wants it today!)

Happy new car Jhardisk and welcome! A word of warning though, although I think you are beginning to realise it, this car is addictive man !

Pretty soon you are going to be a real bore telling everyone what a great car it is and what it can do, but hey, who cares, it's yours (and your good lady's), so carry on telling 'em.... Enjoy.

And I thought it was just me...the part about the car being addictive. In't that old adage true..."if you've got it, flaunt it"? (However, I do try my best not to be arrogant about it.)

    Addictive is not the word!

I have been told on many occasions from friends and my wife that I have become psycho about this car. My old lead foot ways are history and I'm embracing great gas mileage! It's difficult not to try, because it's right in front of me! In our other vehicles, I'm not as aware... out of sight, out of mind... right?

I'm now looking for reasons to drive!

    Now it's:

"Honey, will you go to the store and....?"

I'm already out the door, hitting the power button!

I'll work on pictures soon. After the tint and a good wash and wax.

our sincere - and somewhat envious - congratulations to both you and your wife / co-owner / co-driver / co-et-al, Jhardisk!

i'm SOMEWHAT familiar with your "domain" ... we live in Lafayette, IN, and generally have to travel to the Dayton, OH, area three to four times each year; either to the base itself ... or to the city ... or, if we're lucky, we can "take care of business" at BOTH places in one trip. the last time we drove there, our '97 Stratus eked out 35mpg for the trip ... with a fairly heavy load and at right around 60mph most of the way. next time, i hope our new / not-yet-in-our-possession Prius - we're HOPING to have it no later than the end of July - will manage at least 45mpg ... at perhaps 65mph!

what a relief that will be; cutting down on both time AND gas each-and-every time we have to make that trip!
