Definitely think you paid too much...
I was looking to get a Prius about a month and a half ago, even put a deposit down because the dealership had already started to feel the shortage. They searched for several weeks and couldn't find what I wanted - a black package #6 Prius and I ended up getting my deposit back. At the time the price was right around 28,000. I called the same dealership last week and they informed me that I not only need to get on the waiting list ASAP but also need to come up with about 5K above and beyond the initial price I was offered just because of the demand. I ended up calling another dealership in Northern San Diego county, got on their waiting list immediately and should get a black package #6 Prius for about 28,400 in 6-8 weeks.
I bet you are excited to already have yours, though, so congrats!

I paid 24.9k out the door for a black package 2. Florence Toyota does not charge over sticker and only gets 1-2 prius' a month.

    sales tax 2156
    Doc fees 149
    registration 150

Good spreadsheet however your base price is wrong for Toyota built .... probably already includes package cost

I know where there is a 2008 red package #6 Prius come available that is due in at the end of June. in Denver... selling by my Prius salesman turned broker..

The price will be MSRP + tax, which should be $28,404 + tax. Dealers are adding on $499 dealer handling + $1295 environmental packages. There will be no hidden fees!

I put down a deposit in late May; picked up this weekend (July 5) a Package 6 with mats & cargo net at MSRP ($28,333+t&t). The salesman said now they're getting $1-2k over MSRP. They also don't seem interested in taking deposits - they sell them as they get allocations.

I negociated $24,400.00 for my #2 out the door in Wisconsin.
Got a call from the salesrep today saying she thinks it will
be here in August, instead of the September date she originally
gave me. She said my order had been filled.
Could it be because I emailed her saying I would
consider other colors and possibly an upgrade to a #3???
    Or are they filling orders?

I currently have an '05 package 2 - and love it! At 74K I'm averaging 51 mpg in the summer and 49 in the winter. If I drive nicely those figures increase, of course!

Anyway, I wanted a 2nd Prius for my wife. SHe wanted a BMW sports car, but, alas, we couldn't imagine buying a car with a low MPG.

I contacted the Fredericksburg, VA Toyota dealer (where I bought the first Prius) and they wanted 8K over MSRP. I said no. Then they called and reduced it to 5K. Still no. Then $2,500. Still no! At that point I bought a Honda Civic Coupe EX (the wife wanted something a wee-bit sporty!) for $19,500 (out the door! I know someone at the Marlow Hts, MD Honda dealer. She delivered it to me and I gave her a check. That's a nice way to buy!). Two days later the Toyota dealer called and said they'd sell it for MSRP! Argh!!!

I know that Capitalism is what makes the world-go-round, but to ask more money for vehicles that are necessary to curb our oil consumption appears to me as an un-patriotic stance!

I got my package 6 touring back in April for $28,??? (excluding tax, etc). My salesman now says they're charging about $31k for a package 6 touring. He also said the pre-owned Priuses ..er... Prii are selling very well and that someone paid $16k above the sticker price for one.

Just picked up my Spectra Blue, package 6 today. Paid $30,823 (not including sales tax). Hard to get around paying dealer options. At least I got chrome wheels and window tint.

Put my name on the list for a package 6 in any color on 6/16/08. By 6/21/08, I bought this car off the dealership allocation list. Car delivered July 9, 2008.

My package 6 just arrived today. Paid MSRP - $28,284.00 and not a penny more (not including tax and title). I had called over 45 dealerships until I found one that was not charging over MSRP and/or forcing add-ons. I found several actually, but only about 4 were the real deal. For the most part the rest were not telling the truth. I will post more on that tomorrow. I plan on namin' names. If you live in So. Cal - it's a must read.

MOSSY TOYOTA in San Diego came through for me.

I have a brand new Super White package 6 in my garage right now, just got home about an hour ago - the dealership stayed open late for US! More details tomorrow!

Yes, the markup may be legal, may be due to supply and demand, etc. Doesn't mean I intended to pay it.

    Woohoo!

Picking up my Super White package 2 today. I'm paying $24,458 which includes the $660 destination charge and two add-ons I didn't ask for but am not upset about. I'm getting the preferred accessory package ($279) and something called a rear bumper applique ($69).

I just had a "salesperson" call to inform me they got a "gift" from Toyota and were offering it at a firm price 5k over MSRP, and the also told me they had reopened their waiting list and it is only 10 months now! Good luck! Almost makes me want to go back to my Suburban.

Ordered mine on June 10 (pkg #6) and rec'd a call last week to advise that a spectra blue has been allocated to me.

We paid 28K and were told that the price is the price...same deal on our trade, no room for negotiation.

Completed my purchase last night. I paid MSRP for the car.
I traded in my 2000 RAV4 with 90K miles, a cracked windshield, and severely dented bumper, and other scrapes and scratches typical of an 8 yr old car. The dealer gave me KBB Fair condition trade in value. I know I could have done better with a private sale, but didn't want the hassle.

Overall I'm thrilled with the car and happy enough with the price (although it's the first time I ever paid MSRP for a car).

As I was leaving the sales manager joked that they would have security escort me to the door since so many people want this car. Their current wait list is over 100 and they are telling new customers asking for Prii that they may have a car by Christmas but likely no earlier. Last month they only received 1/2 their usual allotment.
