    Hello all...VERY noob here!

Just brought home our 2008 Gold Prius with Package #3 this evening...FYI:

Got on the waiting list at Pat Lobb Toyota of McKinney (TX) about 4.5 weeks ago.

The other two dealerships in Dallas (Plano, Richardson) were charging premiums (up to $2500!) but I happened to talk to one of the owners of McKinney and he said they have NEVER charged a premium for any car and they never will! They got my order and we paid MSRP (never been happy to say THAT before...).

They told us it would be 6 - 10 weeks but we got a pleasant surprise when they called today!

This is gonna take some getting used to but I've already noticed we're changing the way we drive...it's like my mother is watching!

OK...that's all for now. I'm glad this forum is here as I have lots of questions! I'll be good and poke around a bit before I start asking a bunch.

Always nice to get a new baby home, it's a good feeling.

Combined with great answers on PriusChat and a great car, you should have lots of fun.

    Welcome to the club.

That is great news. Congratulations. I just got a call from our dealership and they stated that a black package 5 is scheduled to arrive by mid July. However, they want us (for my aunt) to put down a credit card deposit of $500.00 and the car is selling $1000.00 dollars over invoice. If we don't put a credit card deposit by today, the dealer is guaranteeing us that the car is going to be sold to someone else...

I wouldn't pay anything over invoice or "sticker" price. Shop around a bit more and try to find a dealer who will not mark up the car you want.

    N3FOL,

We had to give them a check for $500 to hold our spot in line...they never cashed it and we tore it up when we wrote our down-payment check. Seems reasonable to ask for earnest money when ordering a car but I would not have paid a premium....that would have felt too much like the dealer taking advantage of the situation.

Yes...there was a fee for "Dealer Prep" I believe...had never really seen that on a car before. They said it was around $500 for other cars but the hybrids take more prep. We thought it was a bit of a BS dealer fee but they wouldn't budge on it. I negotiated our trade up $500 to cover half of it...the trade-in value they had given us was exactly what Car-Max would have paid for the car...so we ended up $500 ahead + the tax advantage for doing a trade.
