My brand new 2005 Prius broke down on the way home from the dealer. It behaved as if it had a slipping clutch; engine would rev/accelerate without engagement of the drive train. All of the major warning lights lit up like a christmas tree. By the time I got it to the dealer, it was back to normal - drove it home & it did it again. The dealer couldn't "replicate the problem" initially - it took them a week to figure out it was the impeller which was replaced. Almost 1,000 miles with no problem now.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm not sure what you meant by impeller either. Last I checked, the Prius isn't powered by a turbofan.

So what, pray tell, did the dealer mean by "impeller?"

OK, I guess I live up to the "rookie" owner status. I haven't yet received the paperwork & thought I recalled that they said "impeller." The master mechanic said it was a part that converted low voltage to high voltage. So now that we're all done laughin' at me, has anyone had this problem & should I be concerned of a repeat occurence? Glad to be good for a laugh . . . cheers & please advise if you know anything.

Actually, I was laughing at your dealer. The service/sales guys are so reliable at making incorrect or inane comments that I just default to assuming ignorance by proxy when it comes to the posts on this board.

Thanks for the laugh; enjoy your new Prius and your newer inverter!

Oh, and post here first if your service rep advises replacing the outboard... ;)

    Hey,

I would love to have an amphibious Prius!

By the way, does anyone know how to get "On Vacation" off my info?

    Thank you Jeff.

I should have done a more in depth search, but in the end I am still a shameless rookie.

I do still want an amphibious Prius with a BIG impeller! LOL

Thanks for all of the fun responses - great levity during a hectic week! I'm averaging 52mpg so far this week.

    Cheers, to all.

And torpedo tubes!! (This is what happens when you see The Spy Who Loved Me repeated times when you're a teenager. (I also wanted a Barbera Bach as well.))

I want the impeller, I want the torpedo tubes (preferably photon), and most of all I want the flux capacitor, to allow time travel. I understand it's already in the ECU, but there's a wire you have to short out. Let me see... <NO CARRIER>

I have had no problems with inverters on any year Prius(or impellors either). And as for an amphibious Prius, lets see; High Voltage+ Water= A shocking time! As for me I will still take the submarine Lotus and any Bond girl :D Love any Bond movie!
