TV Watching

The "TV" is so boring to watch, that the only time people even play around with it is during stops... unless trying to fiddle with the A/C controls or radio.

 

Maybe I'm still too new of an owner, but I love to watch my "TV." It's the only way I can help get the best gas mileage. However, as for being a "problem", not at all. Now, not only am I more likely to drive the speed limit, I have noticed driving a Prius makes me a safer driver.:rockon:

 

After a while you ignore it.

It can also be turned off.

 

I would like to spend more time watching my TV, but the programming is repetitive and boring. I only get a few channels. One runs a show on auto racing all the time, the other appears to be one of those educational channels with a class about statistics. About the only other program I see is a geography show of some sort showing maps of the local area. Once in a while they cover something new, but I only see that on trips.

You are putting words into the mouth of the PC user chrisspaulding that wasn't there in the original thread.

 

Um, experience? I just finished (in the last two weeks or so) different conversations with both Zacky and Chris, and the attitude is the result of what they communicated in those conversations.

Which words?
1. Fox-watching? That was in the freakin' TITLE of the topic.
2. self-entitled? In addition to wanting moving video on his front screen, he also installed a subwoofer. "But I'll turn it down in residential areas." (Different thread, but it's out there.)
3. "Who cares if you hurt other people, so long as you get what you want?" That thread on TV-on-MFD has Chris coming up with every possible excuse, strawman, and weasel-wording that removes his responsibility for increasing the danger to others so that he might have his morning entertainment.

I dissected that last point at length in that thread. If you disagree with my reasoning there, I won't be able to convince you here, either.

Hope you don't watch TV on your MFD while you are driving.

Also hope you don't watch Fox. I'd hoped that was mostly limited to the USA, UK, and Australia...

 

I think you're completely off-base here. Unless I'm missing someone the OP is asking if anyone has ever been involved in an accident or had a near miss watching the MFD screen while driving...meaning the energy and GPS screens. The TV watching was a joke, something the salesman said to him.

I looked at every one of the OP's posts and he has never said anything about adding a TV tuner, or watching Fox news, or anything you assign to him. I think you owe him an apology and the rest of us an apology for bringing such nastiness into a perfectly reasonable thread...

Anyways I've had a screen for 5 years, you get used to it. To me the portable GPS systems are more distracting, dont know why...harder to see maybe...

 

Yes, and I was making a joke about the programming on my MFD "TV": auto racing, statistics, and maps. It seems to have gone wide of the mark.

And if you look at my very first reply, I wasn't saying that Zacky wanted to install any sort of TV tuner; I was trying (in an admittedly biting way) to point him at another thread that had extensive discussion of the distraction risks (or lack thereof) posed by standard MFD as well as TV-on-MFD.

Let's just say I was being exactly as polite as Bill O'Reilly is to his guests. That work for you?

1. About installing TV tuner: you're correct; in my second reply, I got confused about which OP people were discussing. It was Chris that wanted to install the TV tuner to watch Fox on his morning commute; that was the "in the title" that I referred to. For that oversight, I do apologize. I still stand by the fact that it's a thread that Zacky should read if he's actually interested in the topic of distraction caused by MFD.

2. About watching Fox: Zacky references a fox news article to back up a position he takes in another thread; I believe that "he watches fox news" is an entirely reasonable inference to make from that. (See: http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-m...-will-look-like-europe-soon-2.html#post649818 )

3. That same thread is where I discussed why I believe him to feel entitled to his own toys/preferences over damage done to others. Repeating my characterization of him here doesn't seem like a stretch, especially when I explained its source ("recent conversations").

As for nastiness ... well, if accusing someone of watching Fox News is considered "nasty", then that kinda proves my POV, does it not?

As for the other bits -- my first response was meant to be "light but biting", and I stand by it.

I've had my 2005 with nav for 3 years and change; my wife has a Nuvi 660. I'm perfectly comfortable with navigation and engine status displays. The Nuvi has a much higher-res screen than the 2005 (I haven't spent any time with a 2006-present higher-res Prius screen), and has much prettier rendering. On the other paw, the Nuvi only allows for one "via point" instead of the Prius' multiple destinations, and I don't have to hassle with windshield mount, power cord, and fear of theft due to "ring marks" on windshield.

 

For a straightforward apology: Zhack, sorry for using "Zacky" earlier. It was a mis-remembering, not an attempt to be patronizing. Sorry about that.

 

What you're doing is dragging a discussion you had with him in another thread into this thread and thats not playing fair. He is entitled to his viewpoints, as you are entitled to disagree with his viewpoints openly when he expresses them. You are however not entitled to lord your disagreement over him in every other thread he starts on different subjects. Its not fair to him, and its not fair to the rest of us who have discussions we're enjoying participating in degraded into stupid flamewars.

Same would have been true had you been right about the OP being the person who posted the thread about adding the TV tuner.

And thus reducing yourself to his level. Bill O'Reilly is a pathetic jerk.

If you were on a forum I manage...you'd see a two week ban for that post. It was totally out of line and has ruined this discussion.

I'll take care of that little problem for you, and remove myself for a while. I'll leave PriusChat to the people who want to ruin their own lives, others' lives, and the environment around them. Because obviously those conversations are totally fine, right?
