what kind of MPG are you getting on it and is that by using P&G?

Im so old I never had lego's. I had Lincoln Logs!

They still make Lincoln Logs. We had a set of the original ones made of wood. And tinkertoys with all wood parts. And our plastic legos looks like little bricks and while they stacked, they didn't stick together. So when you knocked the wall down, it scattered all over. We had little plastic doors and windows that would swing open. Unfortunately, never had enough legos to finish the house and add a roof. Never had enough Lincoln Logs either. I guess my parents never felt the necessity of buying a second set of anything.

Our erector set had little nuts and bolts you had to tighten with a wrench to build anything too.

 

I had American Bricks, which seem like what you described but they did interlock. The "set" contained red bricks for walls and somewhat thicker white bricks for the concrete foundation. There were white plastic doors and windows. There were some green light cardboard sheets for roofing.

 

I could have sworn they were legos. They were thinner and were textured around the edge to look like bricks and the top had 8 bumps and the bottoms 8 holes. This would have been very early 60s.

 

Are you sure you're not thinking of Elgo? They were textured, as you say, but Lego were smooth. Here's a link to a page of Elgo American Brick creations. Does this look like what you remember?

 

Yes. The windows and doors look the same. And there were some wedge shapes for a roof. I have no idea what we were supposed to be able to build. There weren't enough for the Honeymoon cottage.

Wow. I wonder if they're still up in the attic. Had no idea there were that valuable. Hope my Mom didn't sell them at a garage sale for $1.00.

 

I was always fascinated by the little french doors and windows that had hinges. They were sooo exotic and cool! I didn't care if there were only enough "bricks" to make two tiny walls and no roof. Such simple pleasures...

Speaking of hinges, do you remember the hinged walls of Fort Apache? I coveted the horses and itsy bitsy pistols. I think there was a dying horse on its knees in the set too, and I don't mean one that had its front legs chewed off by the dog or a sibling. That seems kind of wierd now.

When I was a kid, we were so poor that we only had 2 toys to play with:

1) Rocks
2) Dirt

And we liked it!:rant:

 

We had cheap soft plastic fake Lego type bricks but we only had square type blocks so you had to squint to see a sloping roof. Mostly we built rockets along the lines of Thunderbirds. My cousins were "rich" and had real Lego. They had built houses with automatic doors that tilt up when you drive the matchbox car up to the door.

My brothers and I had the #1 (the biggest) Mechano set. Mechano is the one with steel parts held together with screws and nuts. We just had the one set to share, it was a gift from my grandparents one Christmas. Another year we got a monopoly set from them but that's off topic.

The best thing about the soft plastic cheap bricks is they didn't shatter when the dog chewed them.

I have no idea where all that stuff is now.

 

Legos, Lincoln Logs, Tinkertoys, Erector sets (Mechano for you, Pat), Fort Apache, Blue and the Gray...all designed to get you thinking and be creative...we would play for hours w/ all of this stuff (I even built a Star Wars X-wing fighter out of standard Lego pieces, the only unique pieces being the engines which I took from a Learjet Lego kit)...we bought all of these for our kids...

My grandparents had a LOT of those and I loved playing with them at their house. I hadn't thought about those for years before seeing the pictures... that's quite a flood of memories!

I did have lincoln logs and tinker toys too, but legos were my favorite. I built a special hinged wooden box with a handle so I could carry my vast lego collection around... open the box and DUMP them all on the floor! Good times! It was only late in my lego career that they got carried away with packaging too many specialized pieces in the kits. I got kind of bored with those because they were too limiting.

 

Had wooden lincoln logs then got Tinkerotys and finnally moved on to legos but they were the Space series legos with space men and such.

We were at the Lego store in Downtown Disney last week. Very cool place. Anyway, I was chatting with an employee about how I bought huge bags of legos at a thrift store for just a few bucks. He said that the older legos were made stronger and are worth a lot of money. I would assume you need the old packaging to really be able to resell them for money.

 

I was big into HotWheels and Matchbox cars. I had a gravity powered hotwheels track or four. We had enough hotwheels track to run a double track right across the back yard with banked turns and all!!

 

With our Hot Wheels we would set up elimination brackets for 2 lane racing, either gravity or with the Ram Rodder (a rubber band powered launching device). For the championship rounds my brother and I would even enforce the cars running in both lanes to eliminate lane/starter bias.
We also had the first Sizzlers (electric Hot Wheels) w/ the charging station, braking track, etc.
