Some idiot plows into the back of my Prius.

Pushed the rear bumper in pretty good. No other "apparent" damage I can see. We'll see what insurance adjuster and Toyota body shop say on Monday. The bumper popped free from the rear quarters on the side and is pushed in about an inch. Of course his license plate in imprinted on it as well.

Sort of screws up all our Holiday travel plans now.

The guy that hit me was in a Jaguar. He starts in with "that car in front of you slammed on his brakes, so you had to stop quick" line of BS...

I let him ramble for a few minutes and when he asked me what happened, I did exactly what my insurance company said to do, I said "I don't what happened, but do I have a dash cam in my car that will show I had been stopped for some time when you hit me."

He suddenly got quiet, and changed his story, to "maybe I looked away for a second...hmmm I guess I hit you...well my insurance will have to cover it, I guess."

What a huge inconvenience. At least my 12 year old daughter and I are okay. Although my back is still a wee bit sore.

It doesn't matter what the Jag driver says what happened. He hit you from behind, therefore he is 100% at fault as he required to keep enough distance not to hit you in an emergency breaking situation.

    Same thing happened to me.

Except...the truck in front of me BACKED UP out of no where. He decided not to wait in the left turn lane and go through the intersection. Only I was in back of him, sitting there, minding my own business and he didn't bother to look.

Wow, how did this turn out?

I have also had someone rear end me, only thing was that it was in my Tundra while i had my tow hitch and ball in. They hit me, the ball went through their bumper and into their radiator...fortunately no frame damage on mine.

I wonder how much a dash cam really is for situation like this?

wow i hate to hear that.......people need to keep their mind on driving.....i dont know why so many rear ender accidents happen.....when i drive, im driving.....you have to pay attention. i was in a car that was rearended while my step-daughter was driving. we were sitting still for quite a few seconds when i saw her looking in the rearview mirror with an "oh my gawd" look on her face. i looked in the side mirror and this teenage girl was looking at a new shopping mini mall on the side of the road and didnt look back to the front til after she hit us. we all had neck and back whips because she was doing about 45 when she hit. totaled her grand am. we were in a jeep cherokee and she went up under it. scratched the bumper and bent the trailer hitch but that was it. let us know how the estimate goes.

I called my Insurance Company and told her I had been "front ended". Found out it isn't all that uncommon.

Car got fixed but it took longer than anticipated because after they got in there they found more damage. His insurance decided not to pay because they said it shouldn't have taken that long and I should have driven my car until the parts came in. And other bullsh¡t.

I filed small claims. A different adjustor called to say they'll pay if I cancel the court date. I said I would as soon as the check cleared. I got a check the day before court. She kept leaving me phone messages about signing off 'with prejudice' so I could never sue again. I didn't. Told her if they had addressed this in a timely manner, fine. But they dragged their feet and waited too long and I didn't want to take the chance the check wouldn't clear and then have no option to go to court again. Second time she called I just said "bite me" and hung up.

But I was out the $60.00 it cost me to file small claims.

I believe that the rear of the Prius has crumple zones. If they started to crumple you would not see it at a glance. I imagine they'd be difficult to fix. Toyota will figure it out. Do you really have a dash cam, or where you just straitening him out a little?

When I got rear-ended at a stop sign, the teenager had a novel defense. He claimed I had accidentally put my car in reverse and backed into him. Nobody believed him, but it was worth a try, I guess.

I hope I don't have to go the route of a law suit.

I actually have a dash-cam. It cost $99 on eBay. It's part of my start up procedures, turn it on, press record.

I drive 100 miles a day on the DC beltway so I was betting someone would cut me off or similar. I wanted a visual copy if it ever happened.

    Easy to use.

can you proide a link to a specific dash cam product?
is it self contained, or do you have to plug it into a laptop?

Glad you and the daughter are ok.

What is it with these cars hitting Priuses these days? I see alot of threads on here where a Prius gets hit, slammed to or rammed from behind. You wonder sometimes if these people sometimes hit our cars on purpose just because they don't like them out of spite.

The dash-cam is an excellent idea. I know that more truck drivers now are starting to use them because often they always get blamed 100% when cars be cutting them off on the roadways causing the accidents. I knew a driver that had one when a car did that to him once. Car driver as usual said the truck driver did it but after the cam video was presented with what really happened their insurance company decided to settle. Car driver didn't have a leg to stand on.

I am starting to think that a dash-cam is in my future....can be real legal savers in these conditions.

Not everybody that has an accident is an "idiot". I suspect your pencils come equipped with erasers.

    I write in pen.

Someone that fails to see cars stopped at a red light and plows into them is an idiot in my book. My daughter said I used some word she didn't know when he first hit my car. I didn't even remember doing that. Must be the navy sailor in me.

The cam I use is similar to this:

So. How do you know whether to face it forward or face it backward? Or are there two, one for front and one for back?
