I just got a v7.1 NAV DVD. I did not get it from a dealer but it is a Toyota part. There is a label on the disk that says "Please follow the instructions on pant bulletin general information 07-37-'07 CY DVD upgrade for navigation systems (see dealer daily)." Is there anything special that needs to be done before this will work??

Nope... just pop the DVD into the drive under the driver seat, and it will update the firmware and load automatically. The only requirement is that you are using the proper generation of DVD (2007 = 5th Generation).

That was easy!! I did not loose any of the stuff that was stored. I see the same errors have not been fixed but at least the "I AGREE" IS GONE...

I got a copy of an OEM Generation 5 Version 7.1 disc from someone on CraigsList. I checked with Toyota before ordering and was told that my 2006 Prius took the Generation 5 disc. However, with each of the attempts to upgrade (he sent me three disc -- a new one each time the previous one failed) I got an error message saying that the system could not read the data on the disc and to check that I had the correct disc installed. Does anyone have any advice for me?

When I had a 6.1 I tried several times to "copy" the image on to a DVD+ DL without success, wound up with coasters. That was when I decided to just get one off eBay with the proper part number, it's not worth the hassle but less that from a dealer. Also you might check a junk yard...

I felt that the 7.1 version was still at least two years out-of-date. I wish this had a way to somehow automatically update on-the-go. Any money that you are paying is too much for an out-of-date navigation map. I have a 2008 Prius and wish Toyota would provide one free upgrade within a specified number of years of ownership.

I agree! Toyota should provide at least one free upgrade disc. Map data information changes frequently and as you stated an outdated map is useless.

I have an 08 touring prius that has out of date roads and cafes. I went to olive garden in seattle only to find that it already closed a year ago. Why cant we just burn a copy of the new dvd and put that into the unit?

If you have an 08, you already have the newest version.

The data tends to run at least a year behind, sometimes much more.
