I know this is a bit off topic for the Prius Forums, but I had the great opportunity to to test drive the new 2008 Lexus IS F with Jeff Andretti at the Summit Point Motorsports Park in West Virginia yesterday. What an amazing machine!! I got to drive the car by myself while pacing behing Andretti and to ride as passenger with him while he showed me what a real driver can do with a sports car!!

Of course, I will never buy this car, but what a thrill it was drive! :D

    Some stats:
    Engine: 5.0 L, V8
    Power: 416 hp@6600 rpm
    0-60: 4.6 sec
Max Speed: Governed max speed of 170 mph
    EPA city/hwy: 16/23

    oh, nice.

i was *this* close to driving one, not on a track (ps, i hate you :p) but in town and down the highway JUST THE OTHER DAY.

we had just eaten a huge dinner and were kinda struck by food coma, and i wouldn't have been quite awake enough to really take advantage of it. i figured i wasn't gonna do mediocre.

    i want one... someday.

Did I say I would never buy one of these? I'm reconsidering as I type! Not anytime soon though. Maybe I'll wait until the hybrid version comes out!

Yep, that's it! I'm really glad I signed up - spaces went quickly and I barely got in.

    Do it if you can.

Great car, the new BMW M3 is even better. Hopefully the will to make these smaller performance cars never fades away as they are quite nice packages. I know I'll be considering an IS-F or an M3 or even an S4 or RS4 in the future

Check out the recent issue of R&T where they tested the IS-F against the Audi RS4, BMW M3, and Mercedes-Benz C63.

The Lexus finished in last place IIRC.

It kind of surprises me that in this day of $4.50/gallon gas, MBZ chooses to heavily advertise their 451hp, 12mpg(!) C63 compact sedan on TV (at least in Northern CA). Maybe this campaign was planned so long ago that the couldn't change it when gas prices went up. It almost seems irresponsible.

    OK i'll take the bait

    (hint: they don't care)

....if you cannot afford to get 16 MPG then really why even click on the IS F thread? I can't afford to get one at the moment either but there is no need to trash the thread

the V8 lexus made for this car is awesome - listen to a clip of the IS F revving and maybe you'll understand why we like it and can overlook 16MPG

actually it will probably get around 21 combined for most people, maybe even higher if you are used to cars like the prius which cannot go fast, they are different cars made for different purposes....

I cannot wait for a hybrid IS though :) why cant us hybrid drivers have a car that handles well?

Eh...too heavy and linked to an automatic (as opposed to a dual-clutch box). It does sound nice though.

Me too. I had a Lexus IS250 before the Prius. It was a great car, had many of the features my Prius has now, although I love the back seat in the Prius, the IS' backseat was almost unusable. Maybe the new Lexus hybrid will look something like the IS when they reveal it in January.

i previously had an is350.. i was averaging below 18mpg during winters in california. and rear space was ridiculous... i was very disappointed because the seats would not fold down. glad i made the switch...

If you're worried about the rear seats folding down, the IS isn't the car for you ;)
