115 degrees in Palm Springs my air conditioning stopped working and blew only hot air. After driving about 2 miles I could hear a loud decompression sound from the engine, similar to the sound of those computer air cleaner cans but louder and in short bursts. It happened about 3 -4 times. A few moments later the air conditioner started working again. It's 2007 prius w/ 14k miles. The prius was engaged in a car accident about 6 months ago with some major front end damage, but the body shop did a good job of piece it back together, runs great now. Any ideas about the noise?

I'd say that maybe they didn't do quite as good a job as you thought. Did they use the correct non-conductive Toyota refrigerant and oil? Did they perform the repairs in conjunction with a certified Prius technician (usually means "dealer")?

They work closely w/ the dealership, so they had it checked out before it was returned to me. I think I'll take it back to the dealership. Thanks for the reply.

Sounds like a leak or worse to me.

I shouldn't have been so snarky. It's easy to overlook damage that can grow into a leak. Now that it is leaking it will be easy to find and repair. We hope that there is no more such damage lying in wait.
